Over two decades have passed since Adrien Brody clinched the title of youngest Best Actor Oscar winner for his moving and traumatic portrayal in The Pianist, an achievement that remains unbeaten till now.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m confidently predicting that if there are no unexpected surprises, Brody will likely be adding another golden statuette to his collection at this year’s ceremony. This is due to his extraordinary leading performance in Brady Corbet’s epic drama, The Brutalist.
László Tóth’s character Brody was vividly portrayed by the actor, who breathed life into one of the most captivating cinematic characters of the past ten years. This role allowed him to showcase a wide range of human emotions throughout the film’s three-and-a-half hour duration.
In any scenario – be it the momentary joy of a family gathering, the painful struggles of drug addiction, or depicting a character grappling with personal turmoil and an unjust system, Brody consistently delivers a compelling and captivating performance.
Although there was some exaggerated controversy over the application of an AI post-production tool to improve his Hungarian accent in just a few scenes, he has consistently stood out as the clear favorite throughout most of the awards season. He’s garnered the top prize at nearly every precursor event, including the recent BAFTAs.

It’s noteworthy that his toughest rival seems to be a man who could dethrone him as the record holder for the youngest winner – that’s Timothée Chalamet.
The 29-year-old actor delivers an exceptional portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, skillfully immersing himself into the character of the renowned folk singer-songwriter. Notably, such a convincing portrayal of a famous real-life figure is a type that often catches the attention of the Academy. Moreover, his recent win at the SAG Awards significantly boosts his chances in the competition.
Regarding the other competitors, it’s an intriguing array of acts. Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of Donald Trump belongs to the category of “skilled imitations of public figures,” but his performance stands out as a more nuanced interpretation compared to many actors who have previously attempted to play the U.S. president.
Generally speaking, many viewers who witnessed Stan’s exceptional portrayal in “A Different Man” might concur that he was possibly nominated for the incorrect movie. However, it’s a fine point to argue.
Meanwhile, Colman Domingo, who always charms, nominated for Best Actor for the second year in a row, and Ralph Fiennes, who consistently captivates, deliver strong performances in Sing Sing and Conclave respectively. However, neither seems to have garnered enough backing to seriously challenge Brody in the race.
On the edges of the image, there are noticeable absences: most conspicuously missing from the roster is Daniel Craig. Known for his role as James Bond, Craig’s leading performance in Luca Guadagnino’s Queer represents the peak of his dramatic acting career. This unconventional part was a role that one might have anticipated the Academy would embrace enthusiastically.
Even if he were nominated, it would be challenging to make a compelling argument for him against Brody, given the latter’s stellar performance in “The Brutalist”. Indeed, it appears that “The Brutalist” star is poised to win quite deservedly.
