Among the numerous captivating moments in the 2024 ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ film, the standout was Channing Tatum’s unique portrayal of Gambit, a character originally planned for a solo film. This project, which had been in the works for quite some time, unfortunately stalled after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. However, details about what the Channing Tatum-led Gambit movie was intended to be have recently emerged.

For quite some time, Tatum persistently worked on launching a Gambit film. Initially intended as a comedic romantic flick, he revealed in 2022 that the long struggle to bring the project to life left him feeling “traumatized.” He further expressed that he turned off his connection with Marvel, and since then, he hasn’t been able to watch any of their movies. Despite his fondness for the character, Gambit, he felt like losing a friend because he was eager to portray him on screen but ultimately the project was canceled.

Lizzy Caplan clarified, “We were on our way to shoot it, that was the plan. I believe there was a start date. I had discussions with Channing and several other producers about it. They wanted to create a 1930s-style romantic comedy set in that environment, which would have been quite entertaining.

Fans widely believed that Channing Tatum’s cameo was the highlight in the Deadpool and Wolverine movie, and Ryan Reynolds hinted at a possible Gambit film by stating, “‘I’m not sure what happens during Marvel’s financial discussions, but I do know they are really fond of him for that role,’ Reynolds said. ‘It’s much like the position I was in. Once you demonstrate it works well, that’s primarily what they require. Occasionally, they simply need to witness it in motion.’
