THING SMASHES MARVEL

It‘s time for some hard-hitting action! As a key member of the Fantastic Four, Ben Grimm has faced off against powerful adversaries such as Doctor Doom, Galactus, Kang the Conqueror, the Super-Skrull, and Annihilus. He’s squared off with the Hulk and grappled with D-Man. Beyond his appearances in The Fantastic Four, Ben has fought countless villains in comic books like Marvel Two-in-One and his ’80s solo series, The Thing. In addition to his Earthly exploits, Ben’s also battled a multitude of baddies during his cosmic adventures on Battleworld as “Rocky Grimm,” Space Ranger.

In his first solo comic book adventure since 2022, the affectionately named Thing is tirelessly exploring every corner of the Marvel Universe. Over a series of five issues, Marvel’s “The Thing” volume 4 will see the Aunt Petunia-loving character face off against an eclectic array of adversaries. Among these enemies are Sidewinder from the Serpent Society (previously seen in “Captain America: Brave New World”) and Bullseye, the deadliest assassin alive who was also featured in “Daredevil: Born Again”.

This five-part storyline, penned by Tony Fleecs (known for his work on “Venom War: Wolverine”) and illustrated by Justin Mason (“Sentinels”), follows Ben Grimm as he temporarily leaves the Fantastic Four. In this new adventure, Grimm investigates a criminal network with connections to his past in Yancy Street. He becomes a lone vigilante, using raw power to fight through obstacles. However, when the main antagonist puts a bounty on him, Grimm must face off against an array of iconic Marvel villains, including Bullseye and the indomitable Juggernaut.

Fleecs appreciates Ben Grimm for being an ordinary, diligent individual with extraordinary abilities. He’s like Jack Kirby – not readily amazed by the fantastic, otherworldly events that frequently surround him.

What makes this book exciting is trying to guess which surprises would catch the Thing off guard. With that in mind, we’re using every villain from the Marvel Universe’s Official Handbook against him,” Fleecs added. “We want to challenge him with opponents he wouldn’t normally face. Trust me, you’ll see Ben Grimm take on foes he’s never fought before.

Starting March 5th, the first issue of “The Thing” series will be available, with the storyline concluding in July. This timing is convenient as Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” premieres on July 25th in cinemas. The initial issue boasts variant covers from Greg Land (“Ultimate Fantastic Four”), Marco Checchetto (“Ultimate Spider-Man”), Pixar’s Ben Su, and Nick Bradshaw (“Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis”).
