This past week has been challenging for Warner Bros. Games, as multiple development studios under their umbrella were closed down on Tuesday. Affected studios include Player First Games, WB San Diego, and Monolith. This event has sparked curiosity about the current status of other WB publishers’ studios, given the lack of upcoming game announcements from those that are still operational. During an interview on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier shared insights into these changes at Warner Bros. Games. Interestingly, he also hinted at a new LEGO game being developed by TT Games, which is expected to hit shelves in 2026.
Unfortunately, Schreier didn’t provide any additional details about the game or its potential features. It’s now been three years since the launch of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, so it will be intriguing to learn what the company has been developing in recent years. With a multitude of licenses under their belt, there are plenty of exciting directions they could take this project.
A potential scenario is developing another LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game. Since the release of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 in 2017, there’s been a gap due to Marvel focusing less on X-Men and Fantastic Four before Disney bought Fox. A third installment could reintroduce these classic characters as well as newer ones like Spider-Boy, who have joined the Marvel Universe more recently. However, considering Warner Bros.’ focus on its own intellectual properties, we might see a follow-up to 2019’s LEGO DC Super-Villains first.
For over two decades, LEGO Star Wars has shared a strong bond, so it’s plausible that another LEGO Star Wars game might be under development. TT Games has already explored the primary nine movies, but there are still many unexplored aspects. A LEGO game centered around The Mandalorian seems logical, and there are numerous real-life sets that could be incorporated. Additionally, a game focusing on the Rebuild the Galaxy concept or an entirely new one might also emerge.
If the upcoming LEGO game is indeed set for release in 2026, it’s likely we’ll hear an official announcement soon – perhaps as early as in the coming months. The Summer Game Fest could potentially be the stage for this reveal, given the game’s potential 2026 launch date. Alternatively, we might catch a glimpse at individual showcases hosted by Nintendo, PlayStation, or Xbox. At this point, it’s hard to predict, but it’s worth mentioning that Warner Bros. has an investor call scheduled for this week. With the current negative news surrounding the company, they may choose to use this opportunity to announce something more optimistic and positive.
