2025 Comic Preview – All the Biggest Storylines & New Series to Know About

2025 is poised to be an extraordinary year for comic books, and we’re barely halfway through the first two months! Whether you’re into the grand superhero adventures from the major publishers or seeking something offbeat in genres like horror, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, and beyond, there will undoubtedly be offerings that cater to your preferences throughout the year. Here are some of the most anticipated comics for 2025, with many more likely to be announced as the year progresses; however, we’ve already compiled an exciting list to get you excited!

DC

The DC Universe’s Absolute series consistently impresses, and this year is no exception as three new books are set to join the lineup: Absolute Flash, Absolute Green Lantern, and Absolute Martian Manhunter. Much like the Trinity (Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman), these upcoming titles promise significant developments within Darkseid’s universe. Given the quality of their predecessors, fans can anticipate a unique and memorable reading experience with each release. Mark your calendars: Absolute Flash hits shelves on March 19th, followed by Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 on March 26th, and Absolute Green Lantern #1 on April 2nd.

In the primary storyline, the first All In crossover event will unfold in We Are Yesterday starting in April. This story will continue significant plotlines from the DC All In Special and will be set within the comics of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, Justice League Unlimited, and the World’s Finest 2025 Annual. Notably, Mark Waid is leading a talented creative team for this event. The adventure kicks off in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #38 on April 16th.

Talking about fascinating crossovers, one unexpected one is happening between DC Comics and Sonic The Hedgehog universe. In DC X Sonic The Hedgehog #1, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and the rest of their crew will meet the Justice League, as they team up to repel an invasion from Darkseid into Sonic’s world. It looks absolutely epic, with the first issue set for release on March 19th.

Beginning towards the end of March, the highly anticipated sequel Hush 2 (also known as H2SH) unfolds within the pages of Batman Comic #158. Not only is this event eagerly awaited, but it also marks the return of Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, which has already sparked immense excitement among fans. If you haven’t guessed yet, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding this comic release, which will be available in comic stores on March 26th.

2021 promises an exciting year for DC’s Trinity, with Superman taking center stage more than ever due to the expanding Summer of Superman lineup. In addition to the wedding in Summer of Superman Special #1, fans can look forward to the start of a new Supergirl series, the premiere of Superman Unlimited (which marks Dan Slott’s debut as Superman), a graphic novel titled “Superman: The World,” and a five-issue series called “Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton.” If you’re a fan of the Man of Steel, this year is shaping up to be fantastic!

A fresh creative team consisting of Matt Fraction, artist Jorge Jimenez, colorist Tomeu Morey, and letterer Clayton Cowles is set to revitalize Batman’s storyline later in 2021. They are planning a contemporary rejuvenation for Batman and Gotham City. The traditional blue and grey motif returns, but expect an unfamiliar twist as both the city and its protector undergo transformation. This new phase commences in September, and we’re eagerly anticipating the surprises they have in store.

MARVEL

In contrast to DC’s Absolute Universe, Marvel’s Ultimate Universe is thriving as well. The latest issue of Ultimate Wolverine has been a hit, while series like The Ultimates, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Ultimate X-Men are still going strong. As we approach the return of the Creator, Marvel is launching a new series called Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, which will bring Miles Morales into the Ultimate Universe for the first time ever. This marks the beginning of a crossover between these two worlds and it’s set to hit stores on June 4th.

In its primary storyline, Marvel is charging forward with a Doom-focused series called “One World Under Doom,” which commenced with a significant one-shot issue. This has placed the new Sorcerer Supreme, Doom, at the helm of the world’s most influential figures. He’s already shaping the world according to his vision, albeit not in the ways you might anticipate. Marvel will also release a number of related issues that delve into the consequences of this event, such as Doom Academy, Doctor Strange of Asgard #1, Red Hulk #1, and Superior Avengers.

In April, Spider-Man is leaping into a new chapter with Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz as creators for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #1 issue. Kelly intends to revisit the core aspects of the character, focusing on a struggling Peter Parker who confronts his classic foes using his signature witty banter. The Spider-Man comics have been quite turbulent over the last year, so the release of Amazing Spider-Man #1 on April 9th provides a perfect opportunity for new readers to jump aboard the web-filled adventures.

Two other Marvel titles worth mentioning are the intriguing series “Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell #1” and another one yet to be named. The former is a “what if”-styled narrative written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Steve McNiven, placing readers in the shoes of an elderly Matt Murdock who endeavors to aid those around him following a world-altering catastrophe. As a lethal gas engulfs Hell’s Kitchen, the plot takes a dramatic turn, leaving it uncertain how the once formidable Daredevil will react.

Additionally, Jeff The Land Shark from Marvel Rivals is making his print series debut. Following his past comics triumphs, this new series finds him struggling to clear his name after the chaos caused by Shadow Jeff. Kelly Thompson and Tokiokoro are steering the ship for this series, promising a side-splitting and enjoyable ride that mirrors none other than Jeff himself.

In their latest collaboration, Chip Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti will work together on a fresh series featuring Captain America. Starting later this year, they’ll embark on the next phase of Captain America, delving into the time period between his awakening from suspended animation and joining the Avengers. This team previously created an exceptional origin story with Batman: The Knight, making it one of the best to date, so Marvel fans might be in for another captivating tale under their brand.

IMAGE COMICS

A fresh installment of the ever-growing Invincible Universe is set to debut soon, featuring Battle Beast as the central character. After a long hiatus, creators Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley are teaming up once more to introduce an all-new Invincible series. For those just joining the adventure, Battle Beast offers a great starting point, while seasoned fans will find ample excitement waiting for them as well. The first issue of Invincible Universe: Battle Beast will be available at comic book stores on April 16th.

Later this month, we’re introducing a fresh series titled “We’re Taking Everyone Down with Us #1” by Matthew Rosenberg and Stefano Landini, and it promises to be terrific! The story revolves around the daughter of a mad scientist who is stranded in a world where her father was slain by the world’s top spy. She must choose between leading a peaceful life or seeking vengeance, with her father’s robotic protector by her side on this thrilling journey. Look for it at comic book stores on March 26th.

After that comes another installment titled “Golden Rage: Mother Knows Best,” penned by Chrissy Williams and illustrated by Lauren Knight, with colors by Sofie Dodgson. Known as a blend between Squid Game and The Handmaid’s Tale, this sequel to the initial series will be released in comic book stores on April 9th and promises to heighten the tension even further.

Additionally, check out the action-comedy “Moonshine Bigfoot” by Zach Howard, Steven Ellis, Mike Marlow, and Nelson Daniel, which is set in 1981. This story revolves around Moonshine Bigfoot who’s just trying to enjoy life as much as possible. However, everything takes a turn when he stumbles upon a secret society reminiscent of the Illuminati, and things only escalate from there. “Moonshine Bigfoot” will be available in comic stores on April 16th.

James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh are launching an exhilarating new series called “Exquisite Corpses.” In a small town, America’s wealthiest families play a brutal game every five years on Halloween – they drop twelve of the deadliest individuals worldwide into one location, and the last survivor takes the prize. This time, it’s the people of Oak Valley who are unwillingly thrust into this lethal contest. Their goal is straightforward: survive the night. The first issue of Exquisite Corpses will be available in stores on May 14th.

DARK HORSE COMICS

The highly-acclaimed board game Our Brilliant Ruin will soon illuminate a brand-new series called Our Brilliant Ruin: Horror at Crane Mansion #1, penned by Cullen Bunn in collaboration with artist Christopher Mitten, colorist Piky Hamilton, and letterer Frank Cvetkovic. This chilling narrative promises to immerse readers in a captivating mystery filled with eerie supernatural events as an investigator uncovers the identity of the deceased, the culprit behind their demise, and the connection to a sinister force transforming humans into fearsome monsters. The suspenseful tale is set to be released on March 26th.

Towards the end of the year, Dark Horse will unite Mark Millar and Per Berg for an exciting new series titled “Vatican City.” Set in a world dominated by vampires, the last remnants of humanity are sheltering within the walls of Vatican City, numbering only 2000 individuals. As they anxiously ponder their future, they must brace themselves against the growing threat of the Vampire masses gathering beyond their fortifications. The first issue of “Vatican City” will be available in stores on April 9th.

This year, The Umbrella Academy is set to resume its comic book journey, as Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá, Dave Stewart, and Nate Piekos collaborate once more to introduce the tale of The Sparrows in the comics. Although the series has already presented its interpretation of the story, the upcoming comics will offer a fresh take on the eagerly awaited next installment of their adventures when The Umbrella Academy: Plan B #1 arrives at comic book stores on June 11th.

Ever pondered about the outcome if Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossed paths with RoboCop in an action-comedy show? You’re in for a treat as that scenario unfolds in the upcoming series, RoboWolf! This series is a wish come true for ’90s enthusiasts. The artwork has a distinct ’90s vibe and the storyline revolves around RoboWolf, along with his band of thieves, embarking on a quest to rescue his daughter and defeat the wicked Colonel Massacre. It’s a captivating mix of excitement, action, and nostalgia. Don’t miss out on the debut issue of RoboWolf, available in comic stores starting May 21st.

BOOM! STUDIOS

The transformation of the Power Rangers franchise by BOOM! Studios is still a significant triumph, as demonstrated by the latest release, Power Rangers Prime #5. This issue unveils the new squad to the world. In future installments, it will be intriguing to discover Rita’s ongoing influence on the team and how they confront their emerging adversaries – coincidentally, another iconic superhero group, VR Troopers. The next chapter, Power Rangers Prime #6, arrives in comic stores on April 30th.

In an exciting turn of events, one of BOOM!’s most popular series, Something Is Killing the Children, is set to resume this coming April. The storyline will commence a fresh chapter and mark the sixth year of the Slaughterverse with issue #41 of Something Is Killing The Children. Creators James Tynion and Werther Dell’Edera are poised to unveil the long-awaited answers regarding Erica’s mentor, Jessica, an enigma that the series has been gradually developing for quite a while. This intriguing revelation will unfold starting on April 2nd.

In the upcoming tale, “The Woman in White” returns to Sleepy Hollow alongside Shannon Watters, Branden Boyer-White, and Berenice Nelle. When the character Leon mysteriously vanishes near Raven Rock, the group enlists the aid of their ally, the headless horseman, to aid in the search. Here, myth intertwines with reality as they uncover the legend surrounding the Woman in White. “The Woman in White” comic book releases on August 5th.

DSTLRY

2021 appears set to be a remarkable year for DSTLRY, with one of my most eagerly awaited series being “Knife.” This action-packed thriller is the brainchild of creators Miles Gunter and Patrick Mullholland. The story revolves around an ancient blade imbued with a malevolent primordial force, which falls into the possession of yoga instructor Paige. She then joins forces with a survivor armed with a molotov-cocktail shotgun named Riva to unravel the enigma surrounding the Knife and its devastating power. The series promises to be an exhilarating ride, teetering on the edge of insanity. “Knife” premieres on April 23rd.

April promises to be quite eventful for DSTLRY as they debut “A Mischief of Magpies #1,” a captivating series penned by Simon Spurrier and illustrated by Matias Bergara. The story follows Mar, a teenager who finds himself in a unique city floating on an endless ocean. Caught between the glittering towers above the waves and the ominous halls beneath, Mar embarks on a quest to understand why he’s being transported between realms and uncover the true nature of this place. His only allies are a group of magpies who hold the answers but lack the questions. “A Mischief of Magpies #1” hits shelves on April 16th.

As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that starting May 14th, I’ll be immersed in a fresh series named “Galactic.” This electrifying mix of ultraviolent sci-fi and romance is the brainchild of Curt Pires and Amilcar Pinna. The story revolves around a bounty hunter tasked with tracking down a runaway princess, who, interestingly, seems to be on a self-destructive spree. However, things take an intriguing turn when the crew gets entangled in a conflict and an unexpected romance begins to unfold amidst the chaos. If you’re a fan of Star Wars or The Incal, mark your calendars for May 14th – Galactic promises to be a captivating ride!

DYNAMITE

Among the eagerly awaited re-launches is Dynamite’s Darkwing Duck #1, where the cherished Disney superhero will return in a series that aims to encapsulate what made the original animated series so remarkable. Presented as episodes from the show, writer Daniel Kibblesmith along with artists Ted Brandt and Ro Stein are crafting fresh tales, maintaining the excitement, risk, and enchantment that have made the character dearly loved, and you can grab the first issue when it arrives at comic book stores on March 5th.

In a fresh take, Vampirella, Dynamite’s beloved character, embarks on an innovative tale that challenges her like never before. Readers will follow this journey through the realms of vampires, sorrow, and affection, crafted by Christopher Priest and Ergun Gunduz. The story, titled “The Long Night,” unfolds with Vampirella’s infant son being returned to her care. However, due to the interference of her wicked twin Draculina, she struggles to connect with him, leading to feelings of confusion and uncertainty, and compounding as she grapples with postpartum depression amidst other pressing matters in her life. Vampirella #1 is set to arrive at comic book stores on March 26th.

In a fresh take, an esteemed figure from our collective memory is making his debut in the realm of graphic novels with Captain Planet #1. This issue showcases the collaboration between David Pepose and Emmanuel Casallos as they breathe new life into the legendary earth protector. Five characters will need to address their issues and build trust among themselves, as they race against time to save Gaia and halt Lucian Plunder’s destructive rampage. With the world hanging in the balance, it’s Captain Planet who stands ready to make a difference. Captain Planet #1 will be available at comic book stores on April 23rd.
