Two years have passed since we last saw Sacha Dhawan as the Master on Doctor Who, but this time around, he’s making a comeback with his very own spin-off series.
In these upcoming releases from Big Finish, you’ll encounter Dhawan’s take on the famous antagonist, as he embarks on a solo journey that involves an existential dilemma over three fresh tales.
Through Big Finish’s diverse selection of Doctor Who audio dramas, it has become possible to bring together characters from the Doctor Who universe who didn’t interact on television screens before.
He confessed that he encountered Michelle Gomez at a gathering and felt quite flustered, almost as if he were a fervent admirer. In truth, he needed to repeatedly remind himself that he was equally a notable figure like her.
“We just clicked, we got on so well – so a team-up, me and Michelle, I think would be a real treat.
I believe Michelle possesses a unique energy that seems compatible with my own. I suspect we could have intriguing dynamics together!
Gomez played her final role as Missy in Doctor Who’s TV series in 2017, teaming up with John Simm’s portrayal of the Master. Since then, she has been featured in numerous Big Finish plays. Could another partnership with the Master be possible?

Currently, the title “Call Me Master,” initially unveiled in 2022, presents us with Dhawan’s character assuming a leading role, while simultaneously grappling with personal introspection as he encounters various alien civilizations and finds himself embroiled in a mystery surrounding who committed a crime.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I must say, I’m ecstatic that the project I committed to long ago has finally materialized! We’ve successfully filmed and stored away not just one, but three magnificent episodes!
In these narratives – “Self-Help” by Robert Valentine, “The Clockwork Swan” by Georgia Cook, and “The Good Life” by Una McCormack – Dhawan assured us they will embody a significant amount of the “surprise and peril” that makes the character captivating.
He’s incredibly shrewd, and occasionally, amidst the disorder, there is a method to it all. He consistently has a grand strategy – at times, he’s so far ahead with his plans that he enjoys taking a detour for some mischief on the way.

Isolating the Master from his chief adversary will reveal previously unseen facets of his character. This separation may bring out aspects of his personality that have been masked by his confidence, such as uncertainty and self-doubt.
Playing various facets of this character has been both enjoyable and demanding, as he often requires me to stay alert and think quickly on my feet.
Experiencing the role within a sound recording room rather than a physical studio setup was an entirely novel encounter for me.
“That’s the challenging thing – you’re not seeing my physicality, so it’s all in the voice.
When I channel the role of the Master, not only vocally but also physically, it’s inevitable. Today, after finishing the recording, I was left sweating profusely.
