Chris Hughes, Eggheads star and quizzer, dies aged 77

Chris Hughes, one of the stars of British quiz show Eggheads, has died aged 77.

The official Eggheads social media posts shared the unfortunate news: “We are deeply saddened to report the demise of our beloved Eggheads member, Chris Hughes.

Chris made his debut on the show in 2003, and for the subsequent two decades, he not only provided insightful responses but also brought countless laughter and joyous moments to us.

“He will be hugely missed by all his Eggheads family.”

Currently, the exact reason for the passing is unknown, but it’s been announced that a memorial service honoring life will take place at Crewe Crematorium on the 14th of March.

Mourners and supporters are being encouraged to make contributions to Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation, in honor of Hughes, following his passing.

Besides being a recurring trivia expert on the show Eggheads, Hughes has also claimed victories in several notable quiz competitions. He triumphed in Mastermind back in 1983, and won the International Mastermind that same year. In addition, he was crowned Brain of Britain in 2005.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I found myself among an exclusive circle of seven individuals, having conquered not just one, but two prestigious quiz competitions: Brain of Britain and Mastermind.

In his TV career, he had also featured on The Weakest Link back in 2001.

I’m remembered by many for my extended tenure on Eggheads, where I first joined in 2003. Over the course of two decades, this quiz show became a significant part of my journey.
