On the eve of Monster Hunter Wilds‘ release, Capcom has revealed fresh information about the game’s initial Title Update. This update, planned for launch, will introduce Mizutsune into the expansive monster lineup.
This information encompasses when it’s set to be released, as well as the type of material the game offers after completion or end.
Here’s everything you need to know from this announcement.
Initially, it’s been confirmed that the first update for Monster Hunter Wilds will become available approximately in early April 2025. This provides ample time for gamers to complete the game before delving into the new content introduced by the update.
In our next update, not only are we introducing Mizutsune, but also two formidable creatures that will test your skills. As per Capcom’s announcement, one of these new monsters is rumored to surpass the strength of the tempered monsters we recently unveiled.
To wrap things up, I’m thrilled that in our Monster Hunter World adventures, Capcom is introducing the game’s first title update featuring a unique gathering spot where we can unite online for communal bonding sessions over shared meals. This communal area offers us the chance to enjoy some tasty grub together, and it comes with an exciting bonus: passive buffs that will boost our abilities before embarking on a hunt!
According to Capcom, it’s only possible for players to reach this part of the game after they’ve finished the main storyline.
It seems that Capcom’s already looking to address some of our complaints with this update
In my editorial and in Jez Corden’s review (as the Executive Editor), we both pointed out issues with Monster Hunter Wilds, such as the absence of a well-structured Gathering Hub and the game’s current limited endgame content.
In case you’re new to this, the Gathering Hub is a common spot in the Monster Hunter series where gamers join forces to create hunting parties. Here, you can also enjoy meals prepared by the beloved Palicos, which give your group subtle boosts (passive buffs) before embarking on a quest.
In these social spaces called Gathering Hubs, users can socialize and enjoy themselves by exchanging emotes or participating in mini-arm wrestling games, much like how the Gathering Hub in Monster Hunter World facilitated such activities.
Surely, it’s logical that a Gathering Hub wouldn’t be present in Monster Hunter Wilds given the narrative and atmosphere of the game. Nevertheless, it was quite disheartening to find out that the Gathering Hub was missing from this particular title.
Spending time at Base Camps seemed less welcoming compared to Hanging out in Gathering Hubs. Eating meals cooked by ordinary Villagers rather than Palicos gave the game a more standard feel, and it seemed to lose Monster Hunter’s distinctive quirky appeal without the presence of the Palicos.
It’s great to learn that The Gathering Hub will return swiftly with the initial Title Update of the game, meaning we won’t spend much time hanging out at Base Camps following the launch.
Regarding the final stages of the game, I pointed out in my article that one significant issue at present is the scarcity of activities after finishing the game.
After completing the primary storylines for both Low Rank and High Rank, there isn’t a lot left to engage with except for acquiring aesthetic Layered Armors, battling a few new monsters that aren’t present in the Low Rank quests, and hunting Tempered Monsters for enhancement Decorations, parts to craft ‘Artian’ Weapons, and stat-boosting components.
It’s pleasing to note that Capcom is already working on expanding its endgame content by introducing several new monsters for us to hunt. Even though Mizutsune’s return isn’t particularly exciting, given that I fought three variants of it in Monster Hunter Rise recently, I can’t help but be curious about the unannounced monsters they have up their sleeve.
Capcom’s remark regarding incorporating a beast more formidable than just Tempered Monsters piques my interest, as it might signal the revival of the Arch-Tempered Monsters from Monster Hunter World.
In the realm of Monster Hunter World, Arch-Tempered Monsters stood out as some of the most merciless and formidable creatures ever introduced. Compared to their Tempered counterparts, these monstrosities boasted significantly increased health reserves. A single or two strikes from them could prove fatal even for players equipped with fully enhanced gear. To add to the challenge, they developed new attack patterns that even seasoned veterans found hard to anticipate.
In my enthusiasm as a dedicated fan of Monster Hunter World, I eagerly anticipate the return of Arch-Tempered Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. This addition would undoubtedly alleviate my concerns about the game being overly simplistic, since, at present, only Tempered variants of Arkveld, Gore Magala, and Jin Dahaad provide the tough competition I crave for a real challenge.
Additionally, introducing Arch-Tempered Monsters into Monster Hunter Wildspire could offer fresh rewards for players in the late game. In Monster Hunter World, Arch-Tempered Monsters featured unique armor sets and passive abilities that differed from their standard versions, providing an exciting new pursuit.
Indeed, it’s possible that the monsters in Arch-Tempered form from Monster Hunter may not appear in Monster Hunter Wilds, and instead, we could encounter brand-new, uniquely enhanced variants of existing monsters.
We’ll need to be patient and find out which new creatures the first update for Monster Hunter Wilds might introduce when it comes out around early April 2025.
I’m really hoping that the first title update for Monster Hunter Wilds will contain a hidden adjustment to the game balancing, particularly aimed at reducing the excessive power of Focus Strike and Wounds.
Additionally, it’d be intriguing to subtly tweak hidden power balances, making enemies more formidable in lower-tier missions as well. This way, players can experience a consistent level of difficulty across the entire game, not just during the final stages or endgame.
The upcoming game, Monster Hunter Wilds, which follows in the footsteps of one of Capcom’s top-tier Xbox and PC games, Monster Hunter World, is set to be released on February 28, 2025. It will be available for play on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
