Monster Hunter Wilds Multiplayer Modes, Explained

A comprehensive guide on Monster Hunter Wilds‘ multiplayer features and collaborative hunting techniques. Enjoy!

One essential aspect of a great Monster Hunter adventure, excluding Monster Hunter Stories, is the multiplayer feature. This applies equally to the newest addition, Monster Hunter Rise (or Wilds), but multiplayer hasn’t always been seamless in the Monster Hunter games. Even in Monster Hunter World, designed to make the series more approachable for newcomers, multiplayer interactions could be laborious. Thankfully, with Monster Hunter Rise and now Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom has significantly improved the multiplayer experience, making it less hassle to connect and play together.

In this text, I’ll provide an overview of Monster Hunter World’s multiplayer features as well as guidance on how to enjoy the game with friends through cooperative play.

Here’s everything you need to know about Monster Hunter World’s multiplayer and how to play the game in co-op:

1. Join a Session or Create One: To play with others, start by joining an existing session or create your own room for up to four players.

2. Invite Friends: You can invite friends directly to your session using their online ID or by sharing a room code.

3. Coordinate Hunts: In the Gathering Hub, you’ll find hunters preparing for quests. Choose one that suits your level and group size.

4. Communicate with Teammates: Use voice chat or text messages to coordinate strategies during hunts.

5. Share Resources: After completing a hunt, players receive rewards based on their contribution. Sharing these resources with teammates is essential for crafting better gear.

6. Play Together, Progress Together: Co-op hunting allows you and your friends to progress faster by taking down tougher monsters together and sharing resources for upgrades.

How To Play Monster Hunter Wilds in Multiplayer Mode

In Monster Hunter Worlds, multiplayer has been streamlined compared to its predecessors. To participate in cooperative play, you primarily need to create or join a Gathering Hub, where the host initiates a quest. Once the quest is posted, you can easily join and begin monster hunting with your friends or other online players. However, there are certain constraints that apply within this setup.

1st thing to note: If you’re playing the game on consoles (PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S), you will require an active subscription to PlayStation Plus (for PS5) or Xbox Live (for Xbox).

Similarly to previous games, Monster Hunter in Wilds is exclusively player-versus-environment (PvE). You won’t find any player-versus-player (PvP) modes here.

Furthermore, there are restrictions based on rank (Low and High) when playing multiplayer.

In a Link Party, if your friend has achieved a high rank and shares an HR quest, you’ll only be able to participate if you too have reached that high rank. If you haven’t reached that level yet, you won’t be able to join the quest at this time. On the other hand, if you are in the high rank, you can take part in a low rank quest posted by the Link Party host.

Participating in a Link Party within Monster Hunter Wilds couldn’t be more straightforward. Let me guide you through the process of joining a Link Party:

1. Navigate to the Gathering Hub.
2. Speak with the Scout Flies Master.
3. Choose the ‘Link Up’ option.
4. Select the desired Link Party from the list available.
5. Confirm your participation, and you’re all set!

Now you know how to join a Link Party in no time!

  • Head to the Communication tab of the main menu during gameplay.
  • Under the Communication tab, select Link Party.
  • If you want to be the host of the Link Party, send invites to your friends using the Invite to Link Party option.
  • If you want to join a friend’s Link Party, you will need to accept their Link Party invitation.
  • To accept an invitation, head to the Invitation List option under the Communication tab.
  • If you don’t have your friends added to your game, you can add them via their Hunter IDs.
  • Every player is assigned a unique Hunter ID. Simply input the Hunter ID in the Invite a Friend option to add your friends to your game.
  • Once your friends are added, you can send them Link Party invitations directly from the game.

Online SOS System in Monster Hunter Wilds, Explained

Having a blast with friends while playing Monster Hunter is always enjoyable, but if you’d like to mix things up, you can also team up with other players online. To do this, you’ll utilize the SOS function. If you’re in either the Online Single-player or Regular Online (Lobby) modes, you can approach your Handler (Alma) and then select “SOS Flare Quests” to join a co-op session. Keep in mind that you can only send out an SOS for quests within your current level range. For instance, if you’ve advanced up to 4 Star quests in High Rank, that will be the highest level of quests you can accept.
