Halle Berry’s health journey threw a bit of a wrench in her sex life.
The actress who portrays Catwoman has spoken openly about her journey through perimenopause, revealing that her earlier symptoms were initially misdiagnosed as herpes. This confusion had a noticeable effect on her relationship with her boyfriend, Van Hunt.
On an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show that aired on February 24th, Halle confided in Drew about their challenges. They were trying to rediscover intimacy, dealing with dryness and enhancing the experience as it had become somewhat uncomfortable for a while.
For about half a year, this 58-year-old individual experienced intense pain during sexual activity, describing it as if she were being cut by razor blades. However, it took her some time to identify the cause of these symptoms.
At the age of 54, as recalled in Monster’s Ball, I had recently encountered Van. I brought him into existence, and we were enjoying an exceptional time together, as it was clear that I had found my soulmate.
Nevertheless, Halle – mother to daughter Nahla (aged 16) with ex-partner Gabriel Aubry, and son Maceo (aged 11) with former spouse Olivier Martinez – discovered an obstacle that interrupted the blissful early stages of her relationship with Van.
One morning, she described her experience saying, “I woke up and attempted to use the restroom, but it was agonizing. When I tried to release a small amount, I couldn’t go. Instead, I had to force it out. It took me nearly 10 minutes just to relieve myself due to the pain.
Intrigued by unfamiliar substances I stumbled upon, I found myself questioning their identity. Immediately, my instincts led me to consult a medical professional for clarity and guidance on this unexpected discovery.
After discussing her symptoms with her physician, it was initially suggested to the “Never Let Go” actress that the source of her discomfort might be a severe outbreak of herpes.
Over the subsequent three days, she and her boyfriend, whom they’d been seeing since last September, found themselves embroiled in a “finger-pointing exercise,” attempting to determine if or where she might have picked up the illness.
However, amidst the ongoing disagreement, Halle received another phone call from her physician clarifying that, in actuality, “there is no herpes diagnosis for you.
At this very instant, she chose to tackle the situation herself. Not much time passed before her investigation uncovered that her discomfort was due to Atrophic Vaginitis, a condition linked to her perimenopause.
In this rephrased version, I aimed for a more conversational tone while maintaining the original meaning and using appropriate medical terminology.
In his reflection, Halle described a pivotal point in his experience: “This was a turning point for me.” He went on to share about the confusion caused by the initial misdiagnosis, summarizing it as, “He said, ‘I’m not sure, but that’s what it appeared to be.’

In February 2025, an actress from the show “Even Stevens” revealed that she had been accidentally shot in the face during a trip to celebrate her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday by shooting clay pigeons.
In a heart-stopping moment, another party accidentally discharged their firearm recklessly towards us, unknowingly striking me square in the face. Instantly, @thebrendanrooney leaped into action, swiftly evaluating my condition and whisking me off to the hospital. The bullet had struck me five times, miraculously missing my right eye by a mere inch.
The former star from the series “Kim Possible” went on to say, “Regrettably, a piece became trapped near my eye, and it’s not safe for surgery right now. My doctors are keeping close tabs on me, but for now, I can see just fine.
She expressed her deep gratitude for still being alive, saying, “My affection for my daughters, husband, family, and friends runs incredibly deep.” She further recounted a moment where she felt her life slipping away, urging everyone to seize opportunities to embrace loved ones tightly. Life, she emphasized, can take unexpected turns in the blink of an eye.
Despite the internet often being unkind, Amy Schumer is grateful that this time it provided her with answers. Reflecting on a 2025 episode of Call Her Daddy, Amy remembered the internet scrutinizing her appearance after a series of interviews, to which she responded, “Calm down everyone.” However, medical professionals chimed in with comments suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections. Puzzled, Amy realized that she had been receiving steroid injections for her scars from a breast reduction and C-section. She went on to explain, “I hadn’t realized this could cause Cushing syndrome, but the internet’s relentless criticism led me to learn about it.” Now, Amy is relieved to have learned that she has a form of Cushing syndrome that will eventually resolve itself, as she shared in her February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter.
Hailey Bieber had a terrifying incident in March 2022 during breakfast with husband Justin Bieber when she started experiencing symptoms similar to a stroke. She recalled that Justin asked if she was alright, but Hailey couldn’t respond because she wasn’t sure. When she tried to speak, she couldn’t and her right side of the face began drooping. Unable to form a sentence, Hailey went to the hospital for checks.
The doctors discovered a small blood clot in her brain, classified as a TIA or Transient Ischemic Attack. Later, at the University of California, Los Angeles, further tests revealed that she had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot had traveled into her heart, escaped through the hole, and reached her brain, causing the TIA.
Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and is now feeling well.
In the same year when Hailey went through her health issue, Justin also encountered one of his own. Specifically, in June 2022, Justin Bieber disclosed his diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which led to temporary paralysis in various facial areas and forced him to call off the rest of his Justice World Tour. He explained on an Instagram video that the virus attacking the nerve in his ear and facial nerves caused the paralysis. As viewers could see, one of his eyes wasn’t blinking, he couldn’t smile on one side of his face, and his nostril wouldn’t move – indicating full paralysis on that side. He mentioned it had become increasingly difficult for him to eat, but eventually, the paralysis subsided. Hailey shared on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, feeling better, and was expected to make a complete recovery. She expressed her relief that he was okay.
Initially, Jamie Foxx chose not to disclose details about his hospitalization in April 2023. However, during his 2024 Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…”, he shared his experience. In Atlanta, he complained of a severe headache and asked for an aspirin, but before receiving it, he fainted and lost consciousness for 20 days.
Initially examined by a doctor who administered a cortisone injection and sent him home, Foxx’s concerned sister, Deidra Dixon, drove him to the hospital where they discovered he had a brain hemorrhage that led to a stroke. Following a surgery on the 20th day, Foxx woke up in a wheelchair on May 4 and could not walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.
“I just want to express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “because I needed every one of them.
In 2019, Emilia Clarke, who was known for her battle scene performances on Game of Thrones, published an essay in The New Yorker titled “A Battle for My Life.” Describing a severe headache at the gym, she penned, “I found myself kneeling by a toilet, vomiting profusely. The pain, sharp and intense, was escalating. I sensed my brain was injured.”
She was rushed to the hospital for a scan, where doctors diagnosed her with a life-threatening type of stroke called a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, or an arterial rupture.
The actress underwent immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, describing the pain as excruciating. During her recovery, she also experienced aphasia, or difficulty speaking and understanding language.
A week later, she was informed that the growth causing the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring another operation. She wrote, “When I woke up, I was screaming from pain. The initial procedure hadn’t worked; they needed to operate again, this time through my skull.”
Fortunately, Emilia is now reportedly fully recovered and has shared her harrowing experience publicly.
Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, expresses her gratitude towards her family after a severe stroke in January 2024. When she informed them about the incident via text and shared a picture, they swiftly came to her aid. Due to additional health issues, her hospital stay lasted longer than anticipated. She mentioned that although she could have been discharged following the stroke, her lupus was causing complications, with her kidneys failing in the process. Today, Cori is recovering well, working on regaining some motor skills, but overall, she’s doing fine.
In the early 20s of actress Shailene Woodley, her health took a toll. The actress revealed on the September 2024 episode of the SHE MD Podcast that she experienced severe health issues, including losing her hearing, having to rest after short walks, and stomach problems with every meal. She was diagnosed with a complex mix of conditions by different doctors.
To find answers, Shailene, who has a holistic background and studies herbalism, sought help from both traditional medical professionals and independent healers. This decade-long quest for healing led to various physical discomforts, such as fear of food due to stomach pain, which in turn resulted in mental struggles like body dysmorphia, identity confusion, and feelings of insecurity about her own body.
After addressing both her physical and mental health issues, Shailene is now feeling much better. She shared that her health eventually improved, and she is happy to say she is healthy today.
