Rumor has it that Karen Huger’s Real Housewives of Potomac co-stars are yet to fully digest the news about her prison sentence.
At Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards in L.A., Wendy Osefo told People that she was taken aback when a judge sentenced the Grande Dame to a year in prison for her fourth DUI arrest. “I couldn’t help but be shocked,” she said. “Despite our differences, I wish her well and am keeping her in my prayers.
However, following the cast’s strong performance during the season nine reunion, Wendy is confident that the Bravo reality show can thrive even without its original star, Karen, who chose to seek treatment at a rehab facility after her December verdict and decided not to attend the reunion.
In reference to this group, it appears we’ve been able to move forward with and without her, the professor observed. Observing our reunion, it seems we’ve managed positively as a team, as one entity. I wish her nothing but the best, yet I believe that the Potomac brand remains robust.
Meanwhile, Karen’s longtime frenemy Gizelle Bryant was equally stunned by her punishment.
Gizelle shared with Us Weekly on February 26, barely an hour after the news surfaced, that she was deeply troubled. ‘I don’t have her wigs,’ she said, expressing worry. In reality, I am genuinely worried about her wellbeing in jail. Karen, I think, is not equipped to handle it.
Regarding Ashley Darby, who is an original cast member, she was deeply moved when she found out that Karen was going to prison.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, let me express my heartfelt sentiments: I strongly urge each one of you to hold Karen in your thoughts and prayers. During my recent visit to The Tamron Hall Show on February 27th, I couldn’t help but share this personal appeal. My connection with Karen runs deep, and today, as I journeyed here by train, I felt a profound sense of empathy that left me shedding tears like a child. Let’s all join together in sending her our love, support, and positive energy during these trying times.
In March, Karen had an accident involving her car close to Bethesda, Maryland, which led to her being detained on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). Subsequently, she was indicted for eight offenses, such as operating a vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol, operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and reckless and negligent driving of a vehicle in a manner that was careless, imprudent, and potentially hazardous to people, property, and lives.
Following her conviction in December, she admitted to consuming alcohol while on antidepressants and subsequently sought treatment at a rehabilitation center.
Originally, prosecutors, pointing out Karen’s past three DUI convictions, proposed that the judge impose a sentence of two years in prison, with six months of that time suspended for her recent arrest. However, the Maryland judge ultimately decided on a sentence of two years in prison, with one year of that sentence being suspended.
After serving a year in confinement, Karen, who hasn’t made any public comments about her sentence yet, will be prohibited from operating a vehicle for another year and will additionally be under supervised probation for five years.
1) Don’t forget to catch part three of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” reunion this coming Sunday, March 2nd, at 8 p.m., only on Bravo. Plus, stay tuned for a detailed look at the cast’s fabulous outfits during their season nine reunion.
