Games like GTA San Andreas, Halo 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Half-Life 2, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, and Star Wars: Battlefront were some of the giants that stormed the gaming world that year. However, there were many other remarkable games that also came out, including the debut of series like Red Dead, Monster Hunter, Far Cry, and Fable. It’s safe to say that many 2004 releases didn’t get the recognition they deserved.
Among the games that didn’t receive much attention initially, one was Katamari Damacy by Namco (now Bandai Namco). This 86-rated gem, which kickstarted as an original IP, might have slipped past many gamers, but it managed to generate profits to birth a series. Although the series has yet to break into mainstream popularity, it has been successful enough for Bandai Namco to continue supporting it. In fact, they are currently developing a new installment in the series.
Although Bandai Namco hasn’t explicitly confirmed any news about Katamari Damacy, they have recently secured the trademark for “Once Upon a Katamari” in both the U.S. and Europe. Notably, Bandai Namco is known for accidentally revealing their own games through trademark filings, as highlighted by Gematsu. This could potentially hint at some upcoming development or release related to Katamari Damacy.
In simple terms, if “Assuming Once Upon a Katamari” is a fresh game from the 21-year-old series that debuted on PS2, it would mark the first new game in the series since “Touch My Katamari,” which was released exclusively for PlayStation Vita in 2011. The recent trademark doesn’t specify platforms, but given the past of the series, this could potentially be a PlayStation exclusive game.
Currently, Bandai Namco has yet to offer any comments regarding the recent trademark revelation.
