Stand-up comedian John Bishop announced that his ITV talk show will not be coming back; instead, he’s stepping aside to let more prominent figures like Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross dominate the chat show scene.
In January 2022, the comedian and actor debuted a casual talk show concept that quickly gained popularity, boasting an illustrious lineup for its second season the next year. However, it ultimately vanished from the broadcasting plans entirely.
Currently, Bishop has shared insights about why he decided to step away from his show. He expressed this viewpoint to The Daily Star, stating that he felt the genre was overly saturated and that his show wasn’t essential, given the presence of a few well-established, long-running favorites that already hold significant popularity.
He mentioned that he won’t be producing another season of his talk show. It was enjoyable to create, but he discovered that the genre was already quite crowded. Both Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross excel in this field, and there seems to be no real need for another talk show.
Previously known “Doctor Who” actor expressed his sentiments about the strict time constraints imposed by talk shows that air on television. He mentioned that occasionally, discussions would conclude swiftly, leaving him little opportunity to delve deeper into a subject before it was over.
Instead, let me put it this way: Unlike his stand-up performances, the comedian’s podcasts such as John Bishop: In Conversation With…, Three Little Words, and The Bishop Exchange provide more in-depth discussions with various guests over an extended period.
As a seasoned movie reviewer, let me tell you this: The rigid structure of talk shows often leaves me yearning for more in-depth conversations. Television schedules, much like a Hollywood blockbuster, demand adherence to strict timelines. However, with the flexibility of podcasts, I can delve into the heart of my interviews whenever the spirit moves me, making each episode as captivating and engaging as an indie film that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
In January of this year, the Bishop Exchange was initiated, reuniting John with his friend and professional counterpart Des Bishop for a lively conversation spanning a variety of topics, with them located on different continents.
Besides his latest project, Bishop also shared with the tabloid that this year will see him concentrating on organizing a fresh stand-up comedy tour. He expressed to his fans that “this is what I enjoy and where I devote my time.
