This upcoming Superman film is poised to make its grand entrance in cinemas this summer, and it’s David Corenswet who will be donning the cape as the main character. However, Patrick Schwarzenegger, star of The White Lotus, has recently disclosed that he too tried out for the role.
During a recent conversation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Patrick Schwarzenegger mentioned that he didn’t make it very far during the audition stages for a specific role.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, presently starring as Saxon Ratliff in HBO’s The White Lotus third season, disclosed that aside from securing the role of Golden Boy in The Boys spin-off series Gen V, he also tried out for two iconic characters: Homelander, the antagonist in The Boys, and Superman.
He remarked that he didn’t receive any response regarding his self-taped audition, implying that it might have been a rejection. In other words, it was possibly a “not this time” situation for him.
Actor David Corenswet ultimately secured the part of Superman in the movie directed by James Gunn.
Previously, The Hollywood Reporter was informed by Gunn that David Corenswet will undoubtedly leave everyone astonished by his extraordinary talent. Gunn considers him as one of the most skilled actors he’s collaborated with, capable of handling any role. Simply put, Corenswet is exceptional.
In this new DC Universe under Gunn and Safran’s leadership, Superman will be the debut film. This story focuses on Clark Kent, who balances his career as a journalist with his obligations as the last surviving Kryptonian. Rachel Brosnahan, portraying Lois Lane, has reassured fans that this movie stays faithful to the comics, labeling it as an optimistic superhero film.
The filming concluded in July 2024, with Gunn expressing his feelings about the process on various social media platforms, describing it as a journey that was rich in “hard work, laughter, emotions, creativity, and enchantment.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11th, 2025, and director Gunn has made it clear that the movie will mark the genuine start of the DC Universe, centering around Superman’s efforts to reconcile his Kryptonian roots with his human upbringing.
