Assassin’s Creed Shadows – 15 More Things You Should Know About It

As a gamer, I’m thrilled that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is almost within reach (hopefully without any more delays). We’ve been chatting quite a bit about this action RPG in recent times. While Ubisoft has disclosed a lot of details, there are still many aspects we haven’t explored yet. In this article, let’s dive deeper into Assassin’s Creed Shadows and uncover some more noteworthy details about the upcoming game.

SIDE QUESTS

In Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, there will be no dearth of optional content to explore, much like in other games of the series. Notably, you can anticipate a significant number of side quests that focus on specific characters. As mentioned by creative director Jonathan Dumont in an interview with Screen Rant, these characters may become integral to your journey and some can even be enlisted for your cause. Additionally, Dumont hinted at the possibility of forming relationships with certain characters, which could potentially lead to romantic options if you so choose. Over time, you’ll develop bonds with these characters and their unique quest lines will unfold, offering opportunities to meet them in various locations throughout the game.

FLASHBACKS

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a new type of optional content will coincide with flashbacks. Connected to “meditation mechanics”, these flashbacks will shed light on aspects of Naoe and Yasuke’s past lives. During a recent interview, Dumont mentioned that there are some unexpected surprises where part of the side content is concealed behind meditation mechanics. This means we’ll encounter moments from Naoe and Yasuke’s history through these flashbacks. Initially, you may not recognize who they are, but as the story unfolds, it becomes clear why they are present in this game.

SPLITTING TIME BETWEEN BOTH PROTAGONISTS

In this game, players will spend substantial time with both characters, Naoe and Yasuke. However, as the creators of Shadows emphasize, you won’t frequently be required to play as one or the other. As stated by Dumont, while Yasuke and Naoe have their unique missions, the game is primarily designed to be played with either character, and the gameplay adjusts according to your selection. When speaking to Screen Rant, Dumont explained, “Each character gets their individual introductions and questlines. So, for example, Naoe’s personal questline can’t be played by Yasuke, but these are separate entities. However, the main part of the game allows you to choose your character, and the game adapts to your decision.

RUMOURED CO-OP MODE

As a fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the solo gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with its dual protagonists offering distinct playstyles. Interestingly enough, rumors have circulated that a cooperative mode might actually be in the pipeline! Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson hinted at this in an October report, suggesting that a co-op mode for Shadows, codenamed LEAGUE, is under development. If true, this would enable players to control Naoe and Yasuke together, simultaneously! The exact release date for the cooperative mode is yet to be revealed.

MORE DETAILS ON SEASONS

In our previous discussions, we’ve touched on how different seasons influence the gameplay in Shadows. Let me share some additional entertaining examples:

During winter, you’ll often see icicles dangling from rooftops, which can be broken to create a ruckus that distracts enemies. On the other hand, when it rains, you’ll observe that enemies modify their stealth patterns. Higher-ranking units will seek shelter indoors or under cover, while lower-ranking ones remain outside.

OBSERVE MECHANIC

The comeback of Eagle Vision in the primary Assassin’s Creed series with Shadows is undeniably thrilling, but what makes it even more intriguing is that the new Observe function – operating in a similar manner – will be usable by both characters. This Observe function, described as a “rapid and effortless method to display extra information on screen,” will emphasize items like loot, collectibles, and quest goals, and can also be employed to pinpoint targets and label adversaries.

SAFEHOUSES

In addition to the personalizable base known as “The Hideout,” which you’ll frequently revisit in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the game world will also include numerous smaller hideouts called kukurega. These hideouts, situated at various locations, will allow you to access your equipment storage, manage scouts and allies, restock supplies like ammunition and rations, receive new missions, and much more. Each hideout will also function as a quick travel point.

BRIBING OFFICIALS

As you delve into the world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll find multiple methods for gaining knowledge about the environment. One such method is offering bribes to authorities, a tactic that long-time Assassin’s Creed players may recognize. In this game, bribing officials will provide you with valuable insights on your targets, making it simpler to locate and apprehend them.

PATHFINDER

As a dedicated fan, I’m really excited about how Assassin’s Creed Shadows seems to be focusing more on immersive exploration than its predecessors. This could potentially mean that getting lost within its captivating world becomes part of the game’s charm. However, if you do find yourself hopelessly turned around, don’t worry! The game will offer a pathfinding tool to guide you back on track. Simply activate this feature and a white line will appear on your screen, showing you the optimal route towards your quest objective or map marker.

NO BATTLE PASS WITH ANIMUS HUB

In simple terms, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is set to debut together with a new central platform called the Animus Hub. This hub will link all future games in the series. As for how they plan to monetize the Animus Hub, Ubisoft has already confirmed that there won’t be any paid battle passes or subscription fees associated with it. However, their plans for earning money from this platform are still unclear.

RAY TRACING

In simpler terms, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” will highlight ray tracing capabilities on PC. The performance of your hardware will determine the level of customization you can achieve. At the minimum, you can use selective ray tracing, which allows the game to run with software-based ray tracing even if you have pre-RTX GPUs. When selective ray tracing is enabled, ray tracing effects will only be available in the Hideout. There’s also standard ray tracing that provides real-time global illumination, and extended ray tracing offers additional features like real-time reflections as well.

STANDARD RT PC REQUIRMENTS

Previously, we discussed the minimum and maximum system specifications for the PC version of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”. However, there are various options in between that are yet to be explored. Many players might be interested in enjoying the game with the standard ray tracing features provided by Ubisoft. For playing the game with standard ray tracing at 1080p and 30 frames per second (FPS), you’ll need either an i7 8700K or a Ryzen 5 3600, coupled with either a GeForce RTX 2070, a Radeon RX 6700 XT, or an Arc B580. To bump up the resolution to 1440p and maintain a smooth 60 FPS, you’ll require either an i5 11600K or a Ryzen 5 5600X, along with either a GeForce RTX 4070 Super or a Radeon RX 7800 XT. Both configurations necessitate an SSD and 16 GB of RAM.

STEAM

Unlike many of Ubisoft’s recent major titles, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will debut on Steam at launch. However, it’s important to note that you’ll need to connect your Steam account with a Ubisoft Connect account in order to play the game.

NOT STEAM DECK COMPATIBLE

Unfortunately, if you were considering exploring the rooftops of feudal Japan on a portable device at launch, it seems that won’t be possible due to the game’s high system requirements. Ubisoft has stated that the game won’t support Steam Deck compatibility upon release. However, they haven’t yet indicated whether this might change after the game is launched.

4K/60 FPS MODE

For console gamers wondering about Assassin’s Creed Shadows, there’s good news! According to Ubisoft, the game will offer a performance mode on both PS5 and Xbox Series X that will boost it to an upscaled 2160p resolution and maintain a smooth 60 frames per second. At this time, specific details regarding the Xbox Series S and PS5 Pro versions of the game haven’t been disclosed yet.
