Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña? Yes, yes, yes, yes.
2025 saw me, an overjoyed aficionado, witnessing Emilia Pérez’s triumphant victory in the Best Supporting Actress category at the prestigious Academy Awards. This momentous occasion was for her exceptional portrayal of Rita Mora Castro in the movie musical that also featured none other than Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón. Her win not only showcased her talent but made history, a fact I eagerly celebrate and share with fellow fans like myself! (Discover all the 2025 Oscar winners here.)
The individual, aged 46, fought back tears as she received her award at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2nd. She shared that her grandmother arrived in this country in 1961. She expressed her pride in being a child of immigrant parents who possessed dreams, dignity, and hardworking hands. Furthermore, she highlighted the fact that she was the first American of Dominican descent to receive an Academy Award. Lastly, she conveyed her belief that she wouldn’t be the last one achieving this milestone.
Additionally, although she is the first Dominican-American to claim victory, Ariana DeBose isn’t the initial Afro-Latina to secure a win in this category. This distinction was previously held by Ariana DeBose for her role in West Side Story during 2022.
Zoe acknowledged her fellow nominees – Monica Barbaro from ‘A Complete Unknown’, Ariana Grande from ‘Wicked’, Felicity Jones from ‘The Brutalist’ and Isabella Rossellini from ‘Conclave’ – by expressing admiration for their strength, referring to them as “remarkable women”.
The affection and camaraderie you’ve given me are truly priceless,” she went on, “I intend to pass this kindness on.”
“The care and friendship you’ve shown me are a precious present,” she added, “I plan to share it with others.
Zoe’s triumph at the Oscars added another prestigious award to her collection for her outstanding performance in the Netflix movie. This film received a record-breaking 13 nominations at this year’s ceremony, and prior to the event, she had already won a Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, BAFTA Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for her critically acclaimed role.
As the award season concludes, Zoe remains occupied with various projects ahead. Apart from providing voice-over for the upcoming Pixar movie titled Elio, she’s also scheduled to reappear in Pandora later this year for Avatar: Fire and Ash – the third film of an anticipated five movies in the Avatar series since her 2009 premiere.
She shared with Deadline in February that she was 28 when she made her first film. If things go as planned, she expects to be around 53 or 54 years old for the fifth and final movie.
Yet, the mother of three – who has 10-year-old twins named Cy and Bowie, along with an 8-year-old son Zen, together with her partner Marco Perego – is most definitely not expressing any discontent.
Oh, what a joy it is for me to step back into the realm of a character who’s touched my heart so deeply, to re-explore a world that’s held magic for countless souls, not just mine. This isn’t merely an opportunity for me; it’s a privilege shared by millions across the globe.

“The Journey” written by Diane Warren, performed by H.E.R. – The Six Triple Eight
“Like a Bird” written by Adrian Quesada and Abraham Alexander- Sing Sing
My Path”
I walk my own road, I carry my pain
Looking for a better way to live life again
I’ve lost my faith, but I still believe
In the love that I feel deep within
Chorus:
My path, my journey, it’s all mine alone
Through every high and every low
With each step I take, I learn how to grow
And I know that I’ll find the way to go
Verse 2:
I walk with my head held high, I won’t be brought down
By the stormy winds of life that make me drown
I’ve been hurt before, but I will rise again
With a heart full of dreams and a soul on fire
Bridge:
The road is long, it’s winding and steep
But with every step, I find my feet
And though I may stumble, I won’t fall apart
I’ll keep walking, until the end of time starts
Chorus:
My path, my journey, it’s all mine alone
Through every high and every low
With each step I take, I learn how to grow
And I know that I’ll find the way to go
Outro:
I walk my own road, with hope in my heart
Every step I take, will be a work of art
My journey is mine alone, but it’s never too late
To chase my dreams and make my destiny great.
The song “Never Too Late,” penned by Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Bernie Taupin, and Andrew Watt, is sung by none other than Elton John himself. In simpler terms, you could say, “Elton John sings his own song ‘Never Too Late,’ co-written with Brandi Carlile, Bernie Taupin, and Andrew Watt.
