MIKEY MADISON SHOCKS HOLLYWOOD BY BEATING DEMI MOORE FOR BEST ACTRESS

Mikey Madison must feel like a billionaire.

The Anora star showed strong feelings after claiming the Best Actress prize at the 2025 Oscars, which were held by Conan O’Brien on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Surprisingly, she triumphed over the predicted victor, Demi Moore.

Mikey, visibly anxious, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Academy as she read from her prepared statement. She shared that although she hailed from Los Angeles, Hollywood seemed an unattainable dream. Yet, being there, in the room, was truly remarkable for her.

As a 25-year-old fanatical about the art of acting, I was beyond thrilled to be nominated alongside Fernanda Torres, Cynthia Erivo, and Karla Sofía Gascón at this year’s Oscars. The recognition itself was an honor, but it’s important to express my admiration for each of these talented women as well. To see their names among the nominees is truly inspiring, and I eagerly await the announcement of all the 2025 Oscar winners. (Click here to discover who took home the golden statuette this year!)

She went on to acknowledge the thoughtful, insightful, stunning, awe-inspiring work of her fellow nominees. She feels privileged to be acknowledged in their esteemed company. Being here with them is a long-held dream realized.

Last month’s BAFTA Film Award winner, Mikey, acknowledged those who cheered her on as she prepared for Hollywood’s grandest event.

She expressed her gratitude by saying, “I’m thankful to my extraordinary family, which includes my mother, father, sister, younger brother, and my twin brother, Miles. I appreciate each of you for being my dearest friends, though I must admit, there’s no opting out of that role.

Apart from her family, the graduate of “Scream” spent time contemplating the sex worker community that significantly impacted her portrayal of Ani in “Anora”, a film that went on to win Best Picture. This achievement was made over other contenders such as “The Brutalist”, “A Complete Unknown”, “Conclave”, “Dune: Part Two”, “Emilia Pérez”, “I’m Still Here”, “The Nickel Boys”, “The Substance” and “Wicked”.

She added that she wanted to acknowledge and pay tribute to the sex worker community. Moreover, she expressed her intention to remain a supporter and ally for these remarkable individuals, many of whom she’s had the pleasure of encountering during this exceptional journey, have left an indelible impact on her.

Despite Demi being a strong contender for the award, having secured the Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Critics Choice Award for her role in “The Substance”, Mikey had consistently expressed his gratitude for merely being nominated for her performance in “Anora” prior to the 97th Oscars.

She shared with People magazine during an interview on February 16th that it was hard to express just how significant it felt to be nominated by her peers within an industry she deeply respects and cherishes. Essentially, it feels like a long-cherished dream coming true in many aspects.

She remarked, “It feels incredibly strange yet profoundly meaningful. My affection for the movie, ‘Anora,’ is immense. This film has held a unique place in my heart since its conception. So, to see it acknowledged on such a grand stage is nothing short of astonishing.
