Independent game developer, Reburn, unveiled its upcoming title, La Quimera, a futuristic first-person shooter, which is set in Latin America in the year 2064. Although it appears intriguing, there’s been some misconception about the studio itself, as it was previously known as 4A Games Ukraine.
4A Games, the creators and builders of the beloved Metro games, have confirmed that they are continuing to develop the next installment in collaboration with Dmitry Glukhovsky, the original founders, key leadership, developers, and boasting nearly 20 years of experience on the series. Additionally, they’re working on a new intellectual property project as well. More details about both projects will be shared when appropriate.
4A Games primarily operates from Ukraine, with studios situated in Kyiv and another location in Sliema. However, we also have a number of remote employees and developers based in Malta. Nevertheless, the majority of our staff, approximately 150 out of more than 200 team members, are based in Ukraine.
Back in 2014, we, who were initially the ‘four A’s,’ or the founders of 4A Games, established “4A Games Limited” and set up a new headquarters in Malta, bringing around 50 other team members along. Since then, our company has expanded, and we continue to work on the Metro series under contract with Deep Silver and Plaion.
4A Games Ukraine collaborated closely on Metro Exodus, and following the release of the game and its DLC, 4A Games expanded by establishing another studio in Kyiv with approximately 50 additional team members. Simultaneously, 4A Games Ukraine aimed to develop La Quimera as a distinct project, which they later renamed Reburn.
4A Games expressed their hope for success, stating to fans, “The beloved 4A Games you’re familiar with remains unaltered, and we are not undergoing a rebrand. We continue to be the creators of Metro, responsible for titles like Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, Metro Redux, and Metro Exodus.” The team is eagerly anticipating the 15th anniversary of Metro 2033, scheduled for later this month, and plans to reveal their ongoing work at a future date.
The game titled “La Quimera” is currently being worked on for PC platforms, but a specific release date has yet to be announced. Regarding the next installment of the “Metro” series, Deep Silver confirmed in February 2024 that its production will carry on. Keep an eye out for updates within the upcoming months.
