In the game Monster Hunter World, Mantles were an innovative item that provided special benefits upon use. These benefits ranged from making you nearly invisible to monsters, to gradually restoring your health. They have proven to be incredibly useful, and players are thrilled to see their return in Monster Hunter Wilds.
To clarify, there are significantly less Mantles available in this game compared to the World, and they are scattered quite extensively. However, you won’t miss any of them, so you’ll have a variety of choices when it comes to hunting for them. Alternatively, here is a comprehensive guide on every Mantle in the game, including how to acquire each one, and its respective functions.
What Are Mantles?
In simpler terms, ‘Mantles’ are categorized as ‘Unique Equipment‘, a term that mostly encompasses only the Mantles themselves. You can carry two of these at once, with the initial choice being the Ghillie Mantle, followed by another one of your preference. Each Mantle comes with its own cool-down period, allowing you to quickly switch between them to activate different effects.
As a gamer, I can conveniently assign a shortcut within my Radial Menu so that I can quickly utilize my current Mantle without needing to explicitly select a particular one.
As a Mantle approaches exhaustion, it becomes more noticeable, and its remaining duration is displayed near your inventory on the bottom right side of your screen. It’s important to remember that Mantles have a wait time of several minutes between uses, so use them sparingly. Regrettably, you are unable to remove the Ghillie Mantle, but you can swap it for another one at any camp during a hunt if needed.
Each Mantle And What It Does
In Monster Hunter Wilds, a total of five unique mantles can be found. One of these, the Ghillie Mantle, is initially available to you. Each of these mantles stands out from the others, catering to various monsters and gameplay strategies. Here’s what each one offers:
1. The Ghillie Mantle, given at the start, provides a stealth effect that helps hide your presence.
2. The Nergigante Mantle increases your attack power when you’re low on health.
3. The Kulve Taroth Mantle grants bonus defense when you’re close to breaking a monster’s part.
4. The Almudron Mantle reduces the time it takes to gather materials after defeating a monster.
5. The Nergigante’s Tusk Mantle provides resistance to blast and fire damage.

These two items, the Evasion and Corrupted Mantles, demand a bit more skillful handling. The Evasion Mantle makes dodging less challenging, but its full potential is realized when you’re adept at dodging at the last possible instant. On the other hand, the Corrupted Mantle drains your passive HP, making it suitable for use only during combat. However, to avoid being defeated while wearing it, you must exercise extreme caution. In essence, these mantles present a significant Risk vs. Reward scenario.
How To Unlock Every Mantle
Each Mantle is unveiled within the narrative’s progression, and it can be obtained by conversing with Gemma at any of the global Base Camps. Once you receive a new Mantle, head to your tent to modify your gear, where you can then utilize your secondary Mantle.
By the story’s conclusion, most of them have already been opened. Here is an exact breakdown of when each one gets unlocked.
- Ghillie Mantle – Unlocked by default.
- Rocksteady Mantle – Unlocked after defeating Nu Udra as part of the story.
- Mending Mantle – Unlocked after defeating Xu Wu as part of the story.
