Currently, you can’t purchase the NVIDIA RTX 5080, which is unfortunate, but its exceptional quality remains unchanged. I’ve recently swapped out my aging ASRock Intel Arc A770 in my gaming PC for a brand new RTX 5080 Founders Edition, and the difference in performance, particularly in certain games, is noticeable.
Initially, I had gone through your assessment on the RTX 5080. Yet, what caught me off guard right from the get-go was not what I anticipated – its dimensions.
I was taken aback when the RTX 40 series arrived, especially upon unboxing the RTX 4090 which is surprisingly compact. In fact, it’s smaller than my departing Arc A770, leaving me quite astonished.
Wait, it’s smaller than an Arc A770?!
I’d like to make clear that the ASRock Phantom Gaming Arc A770, when fully named, is distinct from the Intel-launched Arc A770 Limited Edition. Unlike the former model’s sleek and compact design, ASRock opted for an extravagant setup with a massive heatsink and three fans on their version. Despite being only a two-slot card, it’s quite enormous, particularly given its performance relative to upcoming models. In other words, it’s rather large considering its mediocre replacement performance.
It astonished me that the RTX 5080 Founders Edition is slightly shorter and noticeably thinner than a graphics card with less power. However, this is indeed the case, and although it’s a tight fit given my relatively small case, it sits comfortably there, and I even have a bit more room for other PCIe cards compared to earlier.
I’m equally impressed by its sturdiness. Despite its hefty nature as a graphics card, it shows no signs of bending or sagging. I haven’t worked up the courage to take off the GPU support just yet, but I suspect it may not be necessary.
I find it unfortunate that the OEM cards won’t be compact, boasting bulky heatsinks, additional cooling fans, and not forgetting the vibrant RGB lighting! It’s clear that smaller PCs are gaining popularity, yet it’s encouraging to see NVIDIA’s 50 Series making significant advancements in this direction. When I was tasked with reviewing the RTX 4090, I simply couldn’t fit the card inside my old PC case, which incidentally was larger than the one I currently use.
Additionally, I’d like to bring attention to the change in orientation of the power socket from a horizontal to a vertical position. This simple adjustment has significantly improved my connection experience by eliminating concerns about the power cord being excessively bent or under strain. After all, I prefer to avoid any risk of it potentially igniting.
NVIDIA needs to get these things back on store shelves

So far, after spending just 24 hours with the RTX 5080, it’s become clear within this short period that NVIDIA may have made a mistake by not ensuring there’s enough of these graphics cards in circulation. I even humorously messaged a friend today, suggesting that I had found a way to enhance the visuals of Monster Hunter: Worlds – simply by using an RTX 5080!
Despite my reservations about excessive use of upscaling tech in game development, I must admit that the RTX 5080 is nothing short of extraordinary. What’s more, it operates relatively quietly during gaming sessions.
Awakening is impressive, delivering an average of 140 FPS at max settings in 1440p resolution. This means I can now enjoy Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone without compromising on frame rates by adjusting the graphics settings.
Rediscovering the games Spider-Man 2 and Indiana Jones feels like stepping into a new, visually enhanced experience now that I’ve boosted the graphics settings on my Arc A770. Previously hesitant due to concerns about performance issues, I’m confident I can now fully immerse myself in these games at their optimal levels.
NVIDIA faces competition from AMD as their latest Radeon cards are about to hit the market soon, and at rather steep prices that raise some eyebrows. Despite my admiration for the RTX 5080, its cost is a point of contention for me. Yes, it’s incredibly powerful, but it feels a bit offensive how much these graphics cards are increasing in price.
However, I must give a hearty approval to the Founders Edition. It stands out from the rest, but in my opinion, it boasts the finest design among them all. Remarkably, such high-performance capabilities have been compactly housed within a standard-sized graphics card.
