It appears that by the year 2025, agentic AI systems (intelligent systems capable of independent action) will become commonplace, as suggested by Kevin Weil, Chief Product Officer at OpenAI last year. Notably, leading tech companies such as Microsoft, OpenAI, and Salesforce are hastening to deploy these agents to address workplace issues.
“I think 2025 is going to be the year that agentic systems finally hit the mainstream.”
Lately, Microsoft introduced Dragon Copilot – an AI-driven assistant specifically tailored to facilitate tasks for healthcare professionals. This intelligent tool extracts crucial data from medical records and, furthermore, generates clinical notes, referral correspondence, and post-consultation summaries autonomously.
Microsoft highlights the capabilities highlighted below as the tool’s unique selling points:
- Streamline documentation: Clinicians can take advantage of multilanguage ambient note creation, automated tasks and multilanguage support, personalized style and formatting, natural language dictation capabilities, speech memos, editing, customized texts, templates, AI prompts, and more in one singular user interface.
- Surface information: The embedded AI assistant functionality allows clinicians to conduct general-purpose medical information searches from trusted content sources.
- Automate tasks: New capabilities allow clinicians to automate key tasks, such as conversational orders, note and clinical evidence summaries, referral letters, and after-visit summaries, in one centralized workspace.
According to corporate VP of Microsoft Health and Life Sciences Solutions and Platforms, Joe Petro:
At Microsoft, we’ve always seen artificial intelligence as a powerful tool to alleviate administrative tasks in healthcare, allowing doctors to concentrate more on caring for their patients. Our latest innovation, Dragon Copilot, is set to revolutionize the market with its unique, unified voice AI experience. Built on our long-standing expertise that consistently prioritizes provider wellbeing and enhances both clinical and financial results for healthcare organizations and their patients.
Clinicians don’t enter their profession to handle paperwork, yet it’s increasingly consuming more time and focus, leaving less for patient care and support,” said Satya Nadella during the Dragon Copilot launch.
In other words, this AI healthcare tool comes pre-equipped with Dragon Medical One, a voice recognition system for natural speech, an always-on listening solution, and DAX Copilot.
Highlighted aspects will assist in reducing clinical burnout by taking care of repetitive and tedious tasks, thus freeing up time that can be used to address more urgent matters instead.
Based on a different research finding, it appears that the rate of clinical burnout in the U.S. has decreased from 53% to 48%, potentially as a result of technological advancements within the healthcare industry.
Microsoft believes Dragon Copilot to help reduce clinical burnout among professionals more.
By integrating Dragon Copilot into our Electronic Health Record (EHR), we’re not only improving how we operate, but also accessing an AI-assisted Microsoft ecosystem that spans throughout our organization. This means that the intelligent assistance provided by Dragon Copilot is consistent across all of our work environments, enhancing the overall user experience. What makes Dragon Copilot truly transformative is its ability to simultaneously improve patient care while optimizing clinician tasks.
It’s still uncertain how much the Dragon Copilot is going to be priced at. When asked about it by CNBC, Microsoft mentioned that the cost will be competitive and that current users should find the upgrade process straightforward.
I am anticipating that this tool will become widely accessible for users in the U.S. and Canada by May. Furthermore, it is predicted that it will be delivered to users in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, and Germany not long after that.
