Capcom recently declared that Monster Hunter Rampage sold 8 million units in just three days, setting a new sales record for the company. This game outperformed its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, which previously held the title of Capcom’s fastest-selling game, by a substantial margin. When Monster Hunter World was first released several years ago, it managed to sell 5 million units in just three days and has since reached a total of 25 million sales. Monster Hunter Rampage still needs to catch up to and potentially surpass that figure, but with its extensive post-launch plans, it’s well on its way.

Based on Capcom’s statements, the success of Monster Hunter Wilds can be attributed to multiple open betas, a strong marketing campaign, and its widespread appeal. This game has made history on Steam as it ranked among the top five concurrent players with over 1.3 million users on March 1, 2025, making it the fifth most played game, following PUBG, Black Myth: Wukong, Palworld, and Counter-Strike 2. Capcom remains dedicated to meeting the expectations of its players.
To put it simply, the Monster Hunter series trails slightly behind Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise in terms of overall sales, though Monster Hunter has seen an increase of 8 million units sold with Wilds, and continues to sell more. However, Resident Evil maintains a considerable advantage with a total of 176 million units sold across its games, which have been around longer and boast a larger catalog than Monster Hunter.
In his review for Monster Hunter Wilds at TopMob, Richard Wakeling noted that there are some mistakes made during production, both creatively and technically, but he still considers it as a great addition to Capcom’s cherished series.
