Game publisher Acclaim returns with focus on indie studios and classics

A group of seasoned gaming professionals have come together with plans to revive the video game publishing company, Acclaim, which has been absent for over twenty years. This new venture will be headed by gaming industry expert Alex Josef, boasting over two decades of experience in marketing and publishing numerous games.

Established back in 1987, the revitalized Acclaim is now set to aid indie developers, while also reviving its iconic game series. This fresh start will offer resources like financial backing, marketing, and PR assistance, enabling independent studios to reach a broader player base with their creations.

As I stand at the helm, it’s nothing short of thrilling to guide Acclaim’s resurgence within the gaming industry. We’re incredibly fortunate to work with a team brimming with talent, and we’ve managed to secure some truly remarkable indie games that we can’t wait to share with you all soon.

To bring back life and vitality to its cherished collection of timeless intellectual properties, Acclaim has gathered an advisory group made up of prominent figures in the industry such as Russell Binder from Striker Entertainment, Mark Caplan from Ridge Partners, and Jeff Jarrett from Global Force Entertainment.

For over three decades, I’ve been fortunate enough to participate in both the wrestling and gaming worlds. Now, I’m delighted to join forces in rebooting Acclaim, a renowned publisher famous for launching some of the most remarkable games from the ’80s and ’90s, as Jarrett shared. My initial work with their successful 16-bit WWF titles and my role in shaping the TNA Wrestling series, which produced the first wrestler to become a permanent video game roster member, have shown me the transformative power of quality games on players and enthusiasts. Reviving Acclaim presents an opportunity to pass on the same level of passion and dedication to a new audience, and I’m eager to be part of this exciting journey.

Acclaim’s growth strategy gains additional support from partners Phil Toronto (VaynerFund) and Eric Vogel (JET Management). Their knowledge in investment and management will help create a conducive atmosphere to foster the growth of independent developers, ultimately promoting long-term achievement.
