EastEnders is planning a special episode centering around Phil Mitchell’s mental health journey, featuring Keith Allen as a temporary cast member.
An actor known for his work in movies like “Trainspotting,” “Robin Hood,” and “Marcella” has been cast as ‘Gaz,’ a friendly patient that forms a bond with Phil within a psychiatric hospital setting.
Over the course of a month, this narrative delves into Phil’s journey, beginning with his initiation of therapy. It traces his steps towards confronting deeply rooted emotional pain and investigating potential causes behind his depression diagnosis and manifestations of psychosis.
Initially hesitant to share deeply in therapy sessions and group activities, he eventually formed a connection with Gaz due to their similar past experiences.
Regarding his experiences, Allen expressed: “I’ve composed a chart-topping song, hosted Top of the Pops, starred as the main actor in a West End production, and was there when we won against Juventus 4-1 at Craven Cottage… Could it get any more incredible than this?
Indeed, it’s true! I recently appeared on an episode of EastEnders. It was such a delightful experience! To be involved in Steve McFadden’s deeply touching narrative was truly an honor. Though I’m often referred to as a ‘resting actor’, now I can rest easy knowing I’ve been a part of such a memorable storyline.

In the meantime, executive producer Chris Clenshaw expressed joy about welcoming Allen into the cast for the upcoming episode.
While Phil finds it challenging to initiate his treatment process, we delve into how his bond with another patient, Gaz, encourages Phil to make that crucial initial move towards his journey of healing and recovery.
Keith and Steve’s acts are exceptionally moving, as they skillfully and compassionately depict the intricate aspects of mental health restoration and the effects of toxic masculinity.
Simultaneously, the soap was found to have collaborated with several charities such as Samaritans, Rethink Mental Illness, CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), and Mind, in a bid to depict Phil’s story truthfully and compassionately.
