Amandaland Returns for Season 2 After Ratings Success

According to the BBC, popular series Motherland’s spin-off, Amandaland, is set to come back for another season, following the immense success of its initial release among viewers and critics alike.

The popular comedy show, featuring Lucy Punch again as the snobbish Amanda character, was among the BBC’s most successful comedy debuts in recent times. It consistently attracted an audience of around 6.4 million viewers and particularly resonated with viewers aged 16 to 34.

The narrative resumes as Amanda adjusts to the necessity of downsizing post-divorce. Simultaneously, she’s grappling with the complexities of raising teenagers, battling the challenges of contemporary motherhood, and managing her occasionally testy bond with her mother Felicity (portrayed by Joanna Lumley).

At the same time, fans met various new characters like Amanda’s patient downstairs neighbor Mal (Samuel Anderson), the influential duo Della and Fi (Siobhán McSweeney and Rochenda Sandall), and the charming South African real estate developer Johannes (Peter Serafinowicz).

Regarding the renewal, co-writer and creator Holly Walsh expressed her astonishment at the reception of the initial release and was eager to dive into creating the subsequent series right away.

As a devoted film enthusiast, I can tell you that it’s truly humbling to find ourselves with such a dedicated viewership for our spin-off project. Frankly, the sheer size of our audience surpasses even our wildest dreams and aspirations.

She went on to say: “The remarkable cast, scriptwriters, director, and production crew put in an immense effort on this series, and it’s a joy to see their hard work bear fruit. A special shout-out to Lucy for her exceptional performance as our leading lady, and to the BBC for backing Amandaland from the very beginning.

It was fantastic to witness how eagerly the audience has taken to both the familiar faces and the fresh, talented newcomers in the BBC’s Comedy series, as stated by Tanya Qureshi, Head of Comedy.

She expressed her excitement about working again with this gifted group on the next chapter of Amanda’s life journey in SoHa, she mentioned.

In our favorable assessment of season 1, we noted that “Amandaland appears to be on its way to becoming one of the outstanding comedy spin-offs” and that “It’s enjoyable to revisit this universe, though we find ourselves in a new location.
