The thrilling new chapter in the X-Men storyline titled “X-Manhunt” has commenced in Uncanny X-Men #11, authored by Gail Simone and illustrated by Javier Garron. The narrative of “X-Manhunt” is spun from plotlines that have been developing in the X-Men series since the Krakoa Era. The story’s catalyst is an assault on Empress Xandra Neramani, daughter of Professor X and Shi’Ar Empress Lilandra, in the Shi’Ar Galaxy. In a mind-link with her father, Xandra reveals to him the distressing scene of the attack. Confinement at the former X-Mansion Graymalkin Prison has driven Xavier into telepathic outbursts, causing the prison’s administrators to struggle in controlling him, even resorting to tranquilizers. Nevertheless, with Sarah Gaunt’s assistance, Xavier manages to escape his confinement.
Amidst the chaos unfolding, I summoned Rogue’s band of X-Men, aiming to pacify Professor Xavier. What ensues is a staggering display of power, a one-sided battle that leaves X-Men enthusiasts in awe and underscores just how potent Xavier can be when unleashed. Yet, this confrontation holds an ominous twist, a factor that elevates Xavier’s threat level higher than ever before – a lethal tumor growing within his brain, amplifying his power but eroding his control to unprecedented levels. This looming menace promises to play a pivotal role in the upcoming “X-Manhunt”, a development that X-Men fans should brace themselves for.
Xavier Has Been Able to Wipe the Floor with the X-Men for Years Now
Instead of presenting as a benevolent and wise mentor, Professor X has shouldered the immense responsibility of mutant survival for decades, which led him to make decisions behind the scenes that might have surprised others. Aware that a team of superpowered mutants could be both beneficial and potentially dangerous in a world filled with mind-controlling adversaries, he devised what are known as the Xavier Protocols – measures enabling him to dismantle the X-Men should they ever turn malevolent. With his extraordinary powers, it’s clear that Professor X possesses the ability to subdue the X-Men whenever necessary.
In issue #11 of the Uncanny X-Men, we find Professor X not at his optimal state. His encounter with Xandra’s battle left him shaken, as he grappled with the reality of his long-neglected daughter. The arrival of the X-Men seems to calm the situation initially, but as the battle unfolds, it becomes clear that Xavier’s true predicament is unveiled.
Flashbacks during the fight reveal a troubling truth about Xavier – he has been diagnosed with a rare brain stem tumor known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). The X-Men have previously encountered this condition, starting with a young mutant named Harvey X, who eventually succumbed to it after sharing a chilling prophecy about the future. Interestingly, the wardens of Graymalkin have also faced this, as their chief telepath is battling the same tumor in the same location.
The DIPG causes Xavier to experience hallucinations, leading him to unleash his full power against his own team, making him more dangerous than ever before.
Xavier Has Become the Greatest Threat to Mutant Peace
As a devoted cinephile, I can confidently say that no mind on Earth surpasses Charles Xavier in power. His abilities grant him the capacity to assimilate memories from countless mutants, all while multitasking like nobody’s business, and he’s unparalleled when it comes to psychic warfare. Over the years, he’s honed his talents to an extraordinary degree, making him a formidable adversary for those who dare to challenge the X-Men. The series “X-Manhunt” takes this already dangerous Xavier and elevates the stakes even higher. His brain tumor-induced hallucinations, intensified by his emotional turmoil over Xandra’s attack, make him more prone than ever to react aggressively towards perceived threats. Sadly, that includes just about everyone.
The situation in “X-Manhunt” is expected to escalate significantly, as Xavier will eventually clash with Cyclops’s more aggressive team. This confrontation could be hazardous for all parties involved and it seems like the plot will ultimately lead towards Shi’Ar territory. Xavier is currently in a vulnerable state – he’s imprisoned due to his actions to protect his kind, and the painful revelation of how he has unintentionally harmed one of his daughters for years has left him emotionally drained. This emotional turmoil means that anyone standing in his path can expect to face his fury before a resolution is reached.
