An official has shared more insight into the mysterious deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife.
Approximately two weeks following the discovery, on February 26, of Oscar-winning actress Betsy Arakawa, aged 95, and one of their three dogs deceased within their Santa Fe residence, the local fire chief, Brian Moya, has shared insights regarding the potential timing of the demise of Hackman and his spouse.
In his interview with Fox News on March 5, he stated that since the circumstances surrounding both events were alike, it might suggest a comparable timeline.
Over the last three years, serving as the fire chief in Santa Fe, Moya observed that neither his team nor the emergency medical services had ever been dispatched to the home of the mentioned couple.

A deputy speculated that he might have experienced a sudden fall. On a devastating note, Arakawa, another beloved figure, was discovered on a bathroom floor with a space heater close to her and a bottle of prescription pills on the counter, along with scattered pills across the surface.

Over the past three years, serving as Santa Fe’s Fire Chief has given me a unique perspective. In this time, I’m proud to say that neither my team nor the emergency medical services have been called to attend an incident at the home of a specific couple.
According to a search warrant affidavit obtained by NBC News on February 26, Hackman was discovered deceased in a mudroom. A deputy who responded to the scene suggested that the renowned actor may have unexpectedly fallen. In a separate incident, Arakawa was found lying on the floor of a bathroom. Near her head was a space heater, and a bottle of prescription medication was on the counter, with additional pills scattered around.
According to the affidavit, both bodies displayed clear indications of being deceased, with Arakawa’s body additionally exhibiting signs of decomposition.
In addition to examining other aspects of the case, authorities have also considered Hackman’s pacemaker data to help establish a timeline. At a press conference on February 28, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adam Mendoza suggested that the actor’s last recorded activity with his pacemaker was on February 17, which is nine days prior to when the bodies of Hackman and his wife were discovered. According to the sheriff, this strongly indicates that the actor may have passed away on that date.
Mendoza pointed out that constructing a sequence of events surrounding Hackman and Arakawa’s demises was quite challenging, even with the assistance from the Medical Examiner’s office.
He mentioned on Today, Feb 28, that based on the body and other clues found on the body, it seems they might have passed away several days ago, maybe even up to two weeks. There was no sign of anyone moving around in the house or any unusual activity, making it challenging to pinpoint exactly when they both died or how close their deaths were.
Just like the reasons behind their deaths remain a mystery, even the French Connection star Hackman and his wife Arakawa were found to be free of carbon monoxide poisoning.
During their last moments, it appears carbon monoxide was not present in their system, suggesting it might not have played a role, Mendoza clarified during the press briefing. Currently, there seems to be no evidence linking this to the event.
