Besides unveiling enhanced gameplay for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” on PlayStation Blog, Ubisoft has shared insights about its compatibility with the PS5. They’ve also clarified how Fidelity and Balanced modes will operate on the PS5 (which similarly applies to Xbox Series X/S).
In simpler terms, the Performance Mode on your base console doesn’t just play games in 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. It also includes Selective Ray Tracing for realistic lighting effects within The Hideout. On the other hand, Fidelity Mode runs at an upscaled 2160p/30 FPS with Standard Ray Tracing, applying the same lighting to the game world. Lastly, Balanced Mode, which needs a 120/240 Hz display and HDMI 2.1, provides similar features but at an upscaled 2160p/40 FPS.
As a thrilled gamer, I’m excited to share that when I switch to Performance Mode on my PS5 Pro, it delivers top-notch Standard Ray Tracing at a stunning 2160p/60 FPS. However, should I prefer a more immersive gaming experience, the Fidelity and Balanced Modes offer the same resolution and frame rate as the regular PS5. What sets these apart is the inclusion of Extended Ray Tracing, which enhances diffuse lighting and reflective surfaces through global illumination. Essentially, this takes ray tracing to the next level, offering a full-fledged ray tracing experience that truly brings my games to life!
It’s unclear if the upscaler in the PS5 Pro uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology or not. Nonetheless, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20th for both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as PC platforms. Reports suggest that reviews for this game will be published online on March 18th.
