What really happened to Dorna Bray?
After arriving on the island of Saint Marie for the first time to finally meet his mother, Mervin Wilson – Death in Paradise‘s latest lead detective who spent his childhood in foster care – was informed that she had already passed away several months earlier. This unfortunate news shattered any dreams he harbored about rebuilding their relationship.
It seems that Dorna was dispersing her father’s remains over the ocean when a sudden, fierce storm swept in, leading her to meet an unfortunate end in the water.
But the facts weren’t adding up…
Before embarking on their voyage, his mother was already aware of the potentially dangerous weather due to having checked the forecast. Moreover, she had even applied for permission to scatter her father’s ashes at Saint Marie. So, it seems strange that she would decide to alter her plans.
After being reopened for investigation twice, Mervin is now posting flyers across the island, inviting anyone with relevant information to step forward – it looks like there might be a fresh clue, though Mervin remains unaware of it so far.
A certain individual known as Roy Palmer (portrayed by Gerard Horan in Detectorists) chanced upon a poster, leading him to discreetly monitor an unsuspecting person named Mervin.
At the moment, we don’t have much information about Roy, but it seems he works at a restaurant that Dorna favors, suggesting they might have been acquainted.
But who is he really? And how does he fit into all of this?
In the teaser for next week’s episode, Mervin questions Roy, but he refuses to play ball.
“Where were you when the storm hit?” asks the DI.
“Is that relevant?” responds Roy with a puzzled expression on his face.
Was Roy responsible for Dorna’s death? Or could he provide the key to catching her killer?
Regardless of who Roy may be, Mervin must act swiftly as Sterling Fox, the newcomer taking over Selwyn’s position, is poised to abruptly end the ongoing investigation forever.
“Mervin came to Saint Marie looking for answers,” says Catherine.
“If he has to leave without finding them, then this island has let him down.
“Is that really how you want this all to end?”
Is it also likely that the commissioner will be dismissed, as he stands on the brink of removal from office, even though Catherine and Sebastian’s appeal, bearing the signatures of numerous locals, has been submitted?
The folk of Saint Marie are against him leaving, and so is his team. However, could there be a final unexpected move by the show that might rescue Selwyn?
