Progress on Netflix and Wit Studio’s remake of “One Piece,” announced in December 2023, appears to be advancing at a leisurely pace, with updates being infrequent since then. The most significant update about the remake was shared at “One Piece Day” in August 2024, when concept art and the project’s key personnel were unveiled. However, fans eager for news on the new “One Piece” remake might want to look forward to Netflix and Wit Studio’s upcoming sci-fi anime, “Moonrise,” which shares the same core team as the “One Piece” remake and has recently announced a release date in Spring 2025.
Netflix’s anime account has revealed that Wit Studio’s upcoming sci-fi series, titled Moonrise, will be released on April 10th. This intriguing new series, penned by Tow Ubukuta (known for his work as series composer for Ghost in the Shell: Arise, Psycho-Pass 2, and Psycho-Pass 3), follows the tale of an intergalactic conflict between Earth’s inhabitants and lunar rebels. In this struggle, two friends—Jacob Shadow (voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi) and Phil Ash (voiced by Yuto Uemura)—find themselves on opposite sides of the war. What sets Moonrise apart is that it boasts two key staff members also involved in the planned remake of One Piece, making it a highly anticipated watch for fans eager to see the creative talents behind the remake in action.
How does Earth’s tranquil coexistence unfold when the Moon asserts its struggle for self-rule?
In the creative realm of WIT Studio, the drama unfolds under the guidance of character concepts by Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), skillfully transformed into reality by Chiaki Kobayashi and Yuto Uemura. The narrative is accompanied by an original melody penned by…

One Piece Fans Need to Watch Netflix and Wit Studio’s Moonrise
Initially, it might seem that the science fiction series “Moonrise” has no connection whatsoever with the popular anime “One Piece” or its remake. However, upon closer examination of the teams behind these productions, “Moonrise” is definitely worth watching. The two key team members who work on both “Moonrise” and “One Piece” are Masashi Koizuka, who serves as director for both series and also takes care of the series composition for “Moonrise”. Koizuka is well-known for his work on various seasons and special episodes of “Attack on Titan”, as well as his animation work in the “Berserk Golden Age Arc” film trilogy.
Simultaneously, it’s worth noting that Ryoma Kawamura is the other key figure in this scenario. He’s an aspiring animation producer who has previously worked on Attack on Titan and will oversee both Moonrise and the One Piece remake as Animation Producer. Although fans have faith in Wit Studio for the remake, Moonrise offers a unique glimpse into Koizuka’s directing style and the quality of animation we can anticipate from this Netflix collaboration. Above all, the visuals and posters released for Moonrise so far are nothing short of breathtaking, making it an enticing prospect to watch while waiting for the One Piece remake.
