Xandra’s Desperate Plea

The exciting new crossover for the X-Men, titled “X-Manhunt,” begins with issue #11 of Uncanny X-Men, written by Gail Simone and illustrated by Javier Garron. Ever since this story was announced, fans have been eager to find out how it would unfold, and this issue delivers an extraordinarily epic response. For those not familiar with the comics, Professor X is currently in a difficult situation. Xavier formed an alliance with the AI of the anti-mutant agency Orchis as part of a scheme to hinder them, allowing the X-Men time to eliminate them. However, this plan culminated in the destruction of Orchis and the incarceration of Professor X within the former X-Mansion, now referred to as Graymalkin Prison. This story commences with Xavier receiving devastating news: his daughter is under threat.

Readers familiar with the ’97 version of X-Men may recall Xavier’s romantic involvement with Shi’Ar Empress Lilandra. Their relationship, spanning many comics, unfortunately ended in sorrow. Lilandra met her demise, partially due to the actions of Cassandra Nova, who had taken over Xavier’s body at one point. However, their history didn’t end there because Lilandra and Xavier left behind a legacy – Xandra Neramani.

Xavier’s Daughter Is Paying the Price for Xavier’s Sins with the Shi’Ar

Xavier harbored numerous secrets, and one of them, Xandra, had been concealed from him. After the demise of both Xavier and Lilandra, Xandra was brought to life genetically from their DNA. Prior to her unveiling, she was cared for by a former member of Excalibur, Cerise. This revelation caused quite a commotion. Endowed with potent telepathic abilities, Xandra, with the aid of Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Kitty Pryde, assumed her mother’s role as Empress of the Shi’Ar. Deathbird, her aunt, stood by her side as a protector and mentor.

Xandra’s reign as Empress of the Shi’Ar has been tenuous, with her father frequently involving the X-Men and their associates in her affairs, particularly during the Krakoa Era. Notably, Krakoa was a key ally to the Shi’Ar, and on numerous occasions, Xandra was rescued by the X-Men, with Storm, her preferred X-Man, playing a significant role in these saves.

The strict faction of the Shi’Ar dislikes Xandra because she’s not their native-born ruler, and others aim to overthrow her dynasty and establish their own as a standard practice. In distress, Xandra reaches out to her father for aid, communicating with him telepathically, showing him the assault on her spaceship. Xavier feels distressed, recognizing that all this turmoil is his doing. Over time, Xavier has developed into a complex character, one whose practicality borders on villainy. Often acting as a de facto god, Xavier viewed Xandra as another tool for manipulation. He supported Xandra’s rule among the Shi’Ar not due to their familial bond — they rarely interacted, even when she was in the same galaxy — but because an alliance with the Shi’Ar, their technology, and their wealth helped elevate Krakoa from a mere Earth nation into a galactic power. To Xavier, Xandra was just another pawn on his chessboard, one he neglected to protect when she was no longer useful during the Krakoa Era. He failed to establish safeguards for her or designate someone to watch over her once she became expendable. Once she ceased being beneficial to him, she faded from his mind.

Xavier Left His Daughter to Die, But That’s About to Change

X-Manhunt: The Search for Professor X”

This story follows the X-Men as they embark on a mission to locate Professor X after his daring escape from Graymalkin Prison. A key event that sets this tale in motion is the attack on Xandra, an incident many readers of recent X-Men comics would have anticipated. Over the course of the Krakoa Era, Xandra has been under repeated attacks, with the New Mutants, X-Men, and Storm all stepping in to protect her. However, as Orchis’ influence grew around Krakoa, Xandra’s safety seemed to become less of a priority for Professor X. This latest attack on Xandra is just another instance of the Shi’Ar rebelling against someone they have been resisting for quite some time. If Professor X had viewed his daughter as more than a piece in his game, he would have ensured her safety.

It’s only fitting that Xavier escapes from Graymalkin in order to assist Xandra. Xandra has been thrust into a life filled with strife, lacking any known parents. Her sole understanding was that if she needed aid, her father would send someone. Xavier owes it to Xandra to rescue her and hopefully, his struggles against the X-Men won’t hinder him too severely, enabling him to do something meaningful for his daughter at last.
