Initially, let’s delve into what Jake Schreier, director of Thunderbolts*, shared with Empire about the structure being rechristened The Watchtower. “We are aware of the significance of that tower,” Schreier explained to Empire. “Who would be the person you wouldn’t want to own it, given its deep meaning to so many? Can we employ it as a symbol for things becoming more ominous?
I’m referring to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the latest owner of the tower, who’s also the mastermind behind the newly formed Thunderbolts squad. For quite a while now, Val has been on the recruitment trail, and from what we see in the previews, The Sentry is set to play a role in her plan for this team.
The tower previously known as The Avengers’ headquarters has been vacant for some time, but now it’s under new management – Val. This change is significant when considering The Sentry character from the comics, who is currently battling to reclaim his memories and figure out who holds the reins: himself, The Sentry, or Void. After a momentous breakthrough in this struggle, The Sentry gets invited back into The Avengers, which results in their headquarters making a comeback once more.
In a rather surprising turn of events, what was once Stark Tower now sports an unusual addition – the Watchtower, a structure that seems almost extraterrestrial, primarily black with a golden central tower. Initially erected in its current location, it mysteriously disappeared along with the Sentry and the world’s sight of it. However, it’s reappearance is intriguing, as we now find the Watchtower perched atop Avengers Tower. This new arrangement promises to be an exciting spectacle for the future.
It’s intriguing to speculate about how Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might portray The Sentry. Already, the trailers suggest hints of his transformation into The Void, a state he grapples with in the comics.
