Battlefield Players Already Have a Problem With One of Battlefield 6’s Classes

Yesterday, gameplay footage from the upcoming Battlefield 6 was accidentally leaked when some playtesters at Battlefield Labs shared clips on social media. Although such incidents occasionally happen, initial reactions suggest that the new Battlefield has a lot of potential. The leaked content offered insights into various aspects of the gameplay experience, including its modern setting, destructible environments, and intense firefights. However, there’s been a significant online discussion about a specific aspect of the leak: the new Battlefield class system. This change, which appears to be similar to that in Battlefield 2042, has left many players feeling disappointed and concerned.

In Battlefield games, the Support class has historically been crucial due to its function in healing and reviving teammates during battles. Unlike previous titles such as Battlefield 5 which had a separate Medic class, Battlefield 2042 chose to eliminate the class and replace it with the Support. According to leaks posted on the r/Battlefield subreddit, Battlefield 6 is expected to offer four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. However, these leaks suggest that the Support class in Battlefield 6 will be armed with a Light Machine Gun (LMG), smoke grenades, Giga Crate, and Defibrillators. This setup may appear robust, but the leaked information indicates this configuration for the Support class.

In essence, the Giga Crate is causing quite a stir because it requires the Support class not only to resuscitate and tend to teammates’ wounds but also manage ammunition distribution. Interestingly, the Assault class once included a stim pen, but its role has been shifted towards throwing grenades, a change that was previewed in the Battlefield leaks from yesterday.

On a different thread within the r/Battlefield community, numerous users voiced their disappointment over the lack of a medic role in the game.

As a gaming enthusiast, I believe medics should be right in the thick of things for healing and resuscitation. With an LMG (Light Machine Gun), aiming down becomes slower compared to Assault Rifles, putting me at a distinct disadvantage from the get-go.

Another user expressed his concern with the optional defibrillators.

The issue I’m worried about regarding Support at the moment is that it seems they are providing an option for them not to use Defibrillators, which could be problematic if it’s indeed the case.

Many players are expressing a preference for the return of the class system in Battlefield 3, where the Assault class provided healing abilities using medkits. Although leaks are regrettable, this issue can be addressed through conversation. The Battlefield Labs are intended to allow players to experiment with the game and offer feedback to the developers. As demonstrated by the delay of Killing Floor 3 due to negative feedback, such insights are crucial for the development of games. With so many advocating for Medics as a separate class, we can only hope that DICE and EA take notice.
