Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Prerelease Event Announced

The game titled “Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Journey Together” won’t be available until March 28th, but The Pokemon Company has planned an exciting pre-launch chance for fans. Starting from March 15th, prerelease events will take place at various locations nationwide. During these events, you can buy a Build & Battle box which contains 4 packs of the “Journey Together” expansion for the Pokemon Trading Card Game. The box also includes a pre-constructed 40-card deck made up of cards from both current and previous sets. Each deck will feature one of four special promo cards from the “Journey Together” series as its main attraction.

Each card in question showcases one of the Trainer’s Pokemon from “Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Journey Together”. These decks come pre-assembled with either N’s Darmanitan, Iono’s Kilowattrel, Lillie’s Ribombee, or Hop’s Snorlax. Unlike standard Pokemon decks which have 60 cards, these ones are made up of just 40 cards for speedier battles. The rules also reduce the number of prize cards from the usual 6 to only 4. This format is designed to provide players a quicker understanding of what the new TCG expansion has in store. The Build & Battle boxes will be available for purchase after the expansion’s official release date, but not before prerelease events.

It appears that Hop’s Snorlax promotional card might be the strongest among those unveiled so far. This card delivers a whopping 140 damage to the opponent’s Pokémon, with an additional 30 thanks to Hop’s Snorlax’s Extra Helpings ability. However, the downside is that Hop’s Snorlax takes 80 damage itself. Given its hefty Health Point (HP) of 150, it can certainly be considered a formidable force. The card also boasts new artwork inspired by the stadium from the Galar region in Pokémon Sword and Shield games.

On the official Pokemon site, you’ll find an event locator tool that helps users discover if any local shops are hosting pre-release events for the set Journey Together. Unfortunately, those who can’t make it to the event will have to wait until the complete release of the expansion to get their own Build & Battle box. If you do have a nearby participating store, this seems like a fantastic chance to preview the newest collection! With recent Pokemon sets being highly sought-after, let’s hope stores implement safety measures to control the number of purchases made.

It seems that “Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Journey Together” might be one of the final releases under the current theme. There are indications of a thematic change focusing on Mega Evolutions and content inspired by “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, but since this game isn’t expected until late 2025, there will likely be more sets using the “Scarlet & Violet” branding. After “Journey Together” this month, it looks like the next Pokemon TCG set will be “Destined Rivals”, which is due for release in May. This upcoming set appears to introduce more Trainer’s Pokemon, such as popular characters like Misty and Arven.
