Third-Party Xbox Handheld Launching Late 2025, Next-Gen Xbox in 2027 – Rumour

As the Xbox Series X/S generation appears to mark a downturn in hardware for Xbox, speculation about Microsoft’s upcoming strategies has become increasingly pronounced. A recent article by Jez Corden from Windows Central could offer fresh insights into these plans.

It’s widely known that Microsoft has been eyeing the handheld gaming market for some time, and they’ve even openly acknowledged their work on a portable version of Xbox. According to Corden, this initiative will move forward with the debut of a third-party portable gaming PC, which will carry the official Xbox brand.

As a gamer, I’m excited about this new device that’s rumored to be inspired by Xbox design aesthetics, complete with an official Xbox guide button for seamless navigation. Known internally as “Keenan,” it’s said to run on Windows, offering easy access to the Windows Store and PC Game Pass, along with the option to install popular third-party platforms like Steam.

According to reports, while rumors suggest that the next-generation Xbox console might launch in 2026, industry insider Corden claims the release is scheduled for 2027 instead. It’s said that the upcoming console successor to the Xbox Series X/S has received final approval and is tentatively set for the year following the current one. Furthermore, Microsoft’s future gaming strategy may also include a dedicated first-party handheld device along with multiple new controller options.

By 2027, the Xbox Series X/S will have been around for seven years, a common duration for console generations. Notably, this would mean that its lifespan would be shorter than the Xbox One generation. Given Microsoft’s struggles in hardware sales with their Series consoles, it wouldn’t be unexpected if they were eager to hasten the onset of the next generation.
