Chrono Trigger Turns 30, ‘Variety of Projects’ Has Fans Praying for a Remaster

Back in 1995, Chrono Trigger was released, and it’s now celebrated as one of the finest Japanese role-playing games (JRPG) ever created. This timeless masterpiece recently marked its 30th anniversary.

As a dedicated gamer, the wildest twist is that Chrono Trigger, this timeless classic, hasn’t received a remaster or a fresh release on contemporary PlayStation systems. It’s hard to believe that such a legendary game is still missing from my modern gaming library.

However, the three-decade milestone has ignited a glimmer of optimism among fans. Square Enix hints at numerous upcoming projects to celebrate the 30th anniversary, though their wording leaves much room for interpretation.

Square Enix has some exciting plans in store for us, extending beyond the game world, over the coming year. So, keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming updates!

Initially, Chrono Trigger debuted on the SNES in Japan on March 11, 1995. Approximately five years passed before it made its way to the PS1, which happened in November 1999. Notably, the PlayStation version did not see an official European release until 2009 – a full decade later – due to a global port of the game for the Nintendo DS.

Ever since its release, this groundbreaking game has been made available on iOS, Android, and PC platforms. However, a contemporary console version is yet to materialize.
