In a recent development, the upcoming Skate title by EA – a project that’s been in the works for ages with active input from its community – has integrated microtransactions during its Closed Alpha testing phase.
Information provided by Insider Gaming, who received a communication from developer Full Circle, which was passed on by a game participant.
As a passionate supporter, I’m excited to share that the game we’ve been eagerly anticipating is set to debut with a free-to-play model! In this thrilling world, you’ll encounter San Van Bucks, our in-game currency. With these, you can splurge on an array of cosmetic items to customize your character, like stylish outfits, unique skateboards, and more, making your gaming experience truly yours.
Full Circle mentioned they would incorporate the new feature into the Closed Alpha phase, aiming to provide a satisfying shopping experience for players once they buy items during the final launch. They also expressed their gratitude for any input or suggestions from the participants.
As a dedicated fan participating in the playtest, I want to make you aware that any money spent during the test will be reset upon release. However, all the San Van Bucks you’ve earned will find their way back into your account. It’s puzzling why Electronic Arts didn’t opt to provide us testers with a small amount of free currency for the playtest, but that’s the situation we’re in.
As a passionate fan, I’ve got to be honest – from the get-go, this game was marketed as free-to-play. That means the creators have to find a way to finance its development. Microtransactions were bound to happen, and if they’re mostly optional, like in Fortnite, we, as players, can make our own choices. We’re not automatically against their inclusion.
Although it may appear questionable to incorporate these features in the Closed Alpha phase, it’s essential to test such elements for improvement. After all, the purpose of a playtest is precisely that – testing new features. So, while it might initially seem ominous, upon deeper thought, it does make logical sense.
