On Wednesday, the television series EastEnders unveiled a grim disclosure by Nicola Mitchell (portrayed by Laura Doddington) regarding her former spouse Teddy (played by Roland Manookian).
As a cinephile, I’m immersed in the captivating tale unfolding on BBC One’s soap opera, where a clandestine paternity saga is brewing. It seems our character, Nicola, harbors a secret – one that reveals Zack Hudson (James Farrar) as the biological father of her teenage son, Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman). Quite intriguing, isn’t it?
Nicola had planned to keep it under wraps that Zack’s sister, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), had betrayed Teddy by having an affair with her former husband, Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) – a revelation that could also deeply wound Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Sharon’s ex-husband and Grant’s brother, who has struggled with suicidal thoughts.
Apart from the incident, it was reported that Nicola arranged for Zack to be viciously attacked by a group of toughs on Monday, presumably to silence him. This action led Sharon to respond with aggressive behavior directed at Nicola only yesterday.
In the final moments of Tuesday’s episode, Sharon discovered Barney was her father and subsequently had a talk with Teddy. During this discussion, Barney confessed his father’s knowledge about Sharon’s unfaithfulness.
On the 12th of March, 2025, as the latest episode began, Teddy was still in shock from discovering Sharon’s deception. It turned out that she had been involved with Grant, and she confessed to this indiscretion, labeling it a mistake. She apologized for her actions.
Overwhelmed and agitated, I found myself growing even angrier upon seeing Nicola enter, her obvious distress hinting at a fear that the truth about Barney’s paternity had been revealed.
On the contrary, Teddy was enraged towards Nicola for knowing about Sharon’s infidelity but not informing him, as well as for allowing Zack to be attacked, which Teddy believes was a means to control Sharon. Teddy demanded that Nicola depart, and she complied.
On her way to Zack’s apartment, Nicola cautioned Zack that there could be serious consequences if Teddy discovered the true story behind Barney’s paternity.
At number one, Teddy scolded Sharon for her actions and her fondness for “bald-headed Mitchells,” to which she retorted that Teddy didn’t truly understand her after such a brief acquaintance. Recalling the hardships she has recently encountered and endured over time, Sharon refused to be judged for her decisions due to these difficult experiences in her life.
Later on, Sharon confided: “Teddy, here’s the honest truth – I’m just not prepared for this yet. I wasn’t over Keanu then, and I haven’t been able to move past him. Despite my attempts to do so, it hasn’t happened. How could it, given our history?
Teddy, I must admit, you’re truly an exceptional individual, but things have progressed at an unexpected pace, alright? To clarify, I wasn’t ready to be on my own; I needed a friend. Now, if I’m being honest with you, it might be that you haven’t fully moved on from Nicola yet.
This speech caused Teddy to become extremely angry, resulting in him destroying various household objects while scolding Sharon for behaving towards him similarly to Phil, as well as for failing to discuss these problems sooner. This left Sharon feeling anxious and distressed.
Later on, Zack and Nicola arrived, causing Teddy to demand they exit angrily. However, instead of complying, Zack confronted Teddy, labeling him a “bullied” individual suffering from “little man syndrome,” and even bringing up Sharon’s infidelity again. This provoked Teddy to physically attack Zack, knocking him to the ground and kicking him.
The conflict was temporarily halted when Barney expressed distress, urging him to cease the actions, resulting in Teddy offering an apology and departing. Meanwhile, Barney found solace with Nicola, and Sharon attended to the injured Zack.

The fight paused as Barney looked distressed and told him to stop, causing Teddy to apologize and leave. As for Barney, Nicola provided comfort, and Sharon helped heal Zack who was hurt.
At Sharon’s house, Zack and Sharon discussed their upcoming plan, while Nicola took care of Teddy’s hurt hand and continued to flirt with him subtly, justifying her actions as a means to punish Sharon for her infidelity towards Teddy.
Elijah Holloway, the duo’s child known as Harry Mitchell, came back. Before requesting that Nicola departed, Teddy filled him in on the latest developments.
As night fell, Barney ventured to the kitchen to grab a drink, whereupon Teddy conversed with him and expressed remorse for his outburst, a rare occurrence over the past few years. Barney reciprocated Teddy’s apology and defended Nicola’s actions. Teddy confided that his sons hold a special place in his heart, and he was concerned about frightening his own son; he even referred to Barney as his best self. The duo then shared a sincere hug.
At Sharon’s place, Sharon implored Zack to remain with her and keep his secrets from Barney for his own safety, yet he chose not to heed her advice.
Before departing, Nicola got to Sharon’s place unexpectedly and found herself eavesdropping on a conversation between the siblings. In doing so, she discovered that Sharon had learned about Barney’s parentage, which suggested that their predicament was now grave.
Nicola advised them not to reveal the truth to Teddy, as she had witnessed his dark side today, which was just a glimpse of his past – the cruel Teddy she fell in love with. She attributes Teddy’s transformation to Barney and is concerned about what might happen if Teddy loses him. According to Nicola, Teddy is a killer and played a role in the disappearance and presumed death of Harry’s girlfriend, Shireen Bashar.
Nicola cautioned the duo, saying that revealing the truth could potentially harm everyone, so it’s best for them to stay silent or face a similar fate as Shireen.
So, is Teddy a killer? And can Sharon and Zack trust Nicola?
