As a passionate moviegoer putting it in my own words, I’d say: This year, I learned that ITV decided to pull Emmerdale out of the soap category for the BAFTA TV Awards, following a writer associated with the show who faced charges for assaulting his partner.
Martin Fustes is known for penning a whopping 758 episodes of the popular soap opera, Emmerdale, and he even penned more than 170 episodes on his own.
After confessing to the accusations, ITV has also ended its association with Fustes, meaning he will no longer contribute as a writer for the soap opera.
A representative from ITV expressed their shock and dismay upon discovering the recent court case involving Emmerdale scriptwriter Martin Fustes, as reported by Deadline.
Mr. Fustes has learned that his services as a freelance writer for Emmerdale are no longer required.
At ITV and Emmerdale, we strongly condemn domestic abuse. For the past year, we’ve been shedding light on this important matter through a significant storyline.
It wasn’t until we were informed this past weekend that the Emmerdale crew hadn’t previously known about the allegations against Mr. Fustes.
Regarding pulling out of the Soap category for this year’s BAFTA TV Awards, ITV and Emmerdale have made the choice to do so due to recent events concerning one of their scriptwriters.
In a court case held at Hull Crown Court, Fustes acknowledged his actions: he admitted to physically attacking a certain woman, inflicting real physical injury on her, and committing the offense of intentionally suffocating her on the 27th of January.
As I shared earlier, I was handed down a two-year suspended prison term, 150 hours of community service, 15 days of rehabilitation, and a 26-session program for addressing domestic abuse as part of my probation.
Apart from his sentence, he was additionally instructed to cover a compensation amounting to £2,000 and £150 for costs, and furthermore, a 10-year protective order was imposed on him.
This year’s BAFTA TV Awards will take place on Sunday 11th May 2025.
