Devil May Cry’s Netflix Anime Is Dividing Fans Big Time

The upcoming video game series, Devil May Cry, will soon be adapted into an animated version, following closely after the animation adaptation of Tomb Raider that was released last year.

This production is being handled by Studio Mir, a talented Korean team known for their exceptional work on X-Men ’97, which gives it a strong reputation. Additionally, Capcom is part of the project as well.

But based on this launch trailer, ahead of the show’s debut on 3rd April, fans are divided.

To the tunes of Papa Roach, the video offers a comprehensive debut of our main character, Dante, along with the antagonists he’ll encounter. While it strays somewhat from the original game series, Vergil makes a brief, required appearance near the conclusion.

One user remarked that Dante and Vergil sound and look odd to them, as they’ve been used to Reuben Langdon and Daniel Southworth playing these characters in the Devil May Cry series until now. Here, Johnny Yong Bosch and Robbie Daymond are taking over their roles.

Another fan added: “This trailer is basically the embodiment of every late 2000s AMV on YouTube.”

It’s important to mention that this isn’t the debut animated series of Devil May Cry. In fact, an anime was released back in 2007 which you can find on Crunchyroll. This new series, however, seems to be more aligned with the games and appears to serve as a link between the initial Devil May Cry and its successor.
