Following what seems like an eternity of anticipation, we’re at long last going to see a fresh animated sequel to “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Titled “Avatar: Seven Havens“, this series is the third animation in the franchise and will unfold after the controversial “The Legend of Korra“, which aired from 2012 to 2014. When the new show was unveiled last month, Avatar Studios disclosed the storyline for “Seven Havens“, hinting that the world has plunged back into turmoil and that the Avatar is now viewed as a scorned figure.
In the narrative presented, a young girl learns she’s the latest incarnation of the Avatar following Korra. However, unlike being hailed as a savior, this title puts her in grave danger, with both human and spiritual adversaries seeking her out. Alongside her long-lost twin, she embarks on a journey to understand their enigmatic backgrounds and prevent the collapse of the Seven Havens, serving as the last bastions of civilization. This portrayal establishes the realm of Seven Havens, but it fails to reveal who this new Avatar actually is.
Who Is Seven Havens‘ New Avatar?
To date, only one piece of official information has been revealed regarding the new Avatar in Seven Havens: they are an earthbender. Since it’s known that previous Avatars were airbenders (Avatar Aang), firebenders (Avatar Roku), and waterbenders (Avatar Korra), fans have already speculated that this new Avatar will follow the pattern. However, more details about Seven Havens’ Avatar are yet to be disclosed. Nevertheless, considering their association with the Earth Nation and rumors about twin benders named Nisha and Pavi, some assumptions can be made about the upcoming Avatar.
It’s clear that earthbending will be their primary skill, but they’ll also likely excel in both waterbending and firebending. In the series “The Last Airbender”, Aang mastered waterbending swiftly and found firebending manageable, overcoming his fears about causing harm to his companions. However, earthbending proved to be a more formidable obstacle for him. With the guidance of The Blind Bandit, or Toph Beifong, Aang took some time to adapt to earthbending’s direct combat style.
In the series, Toph describes why learning earthbending is particularly challenging for him since it’s fundamentally different from airbending, his natural counterpart. If the upcoming show Seven Havens maintains this concept and doesn’t alter it like The Legend of Korra did regarding the origins of bending, then the unnamed new Avatar may struggle significantly with airbending. It’s worth mentioning that Avatar Korra too faced challenges with airbending, not due to it being opposite of waterbending (which would be firebending), but because of her strong-willed personality. The unique mental traits of the new Avatar could result in a distinct obstacle on their path to master all four elements.
The New Avatar Has a Major Battle Ahead of Them
As I embark on my journey as the new Earth Nation’s Avatar, I’m not just grappling with my personal challenges of controlling the four elements, but also tackling the public’s misconceptions about the Avatar role. The official description of the show casts the Avatar as a destroyer rather than a savior, which means Korra has made some grave mistakes. With her contentious nature as the most divisive Avatar yet, this plot twist has only fueled the ire of those who criticize her.
The change in how the world views this upcoming Avatar may significantly impact them psychologically, as Aang was raised a peaceful monk at the Southern Air Temple in contrast to Korra, who was brought up with an ego instilled by knowing she was the Avatar. This new Avatar will grapple with and surmount the reality that they might be universally disliked due to circumstances beyond their control.
I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming animation series, Avatar: Seven Havens, which promises an engaging journey spanning over two seasons, or “books,” with a grand total of 26 episodes! While the casting details remain under wraps for now, the original masterminds behind Avatar: The Last Airbender, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are back to bring this new tale to life. As for the release date, it’s still up in the air, but before we get there, Avatar Studios is treating us to a fresh animated feature film! This exciting, yet-to-be-titled movie is set to grace our screens on January 20th, 2026. I can hardly wait to rejoin our beloved Avatar Aang on this new adventure!
