The fourth movie in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man series by Sony and Marvel is set to hit cinemas next year. Not many details have been revealed about the film yet, but on Wednesday, we got some major updates since Daniel Destin Cretton was appointed as director. It’s been announced that Sadie Sink, known for her roles in Stranger Things and Fear Street, will be joining Holland in the upcoming movie. However, the character she will portray is still under wraps.
Online, numerous speculations about her character abound, yet none have been substantiated with solid proof as of now. Considering this, we’ve compiled a list of five characters that we believe Sink could convincingly portray in Spider-Man 4.
Jean Grey
Let’s discuss a widely debated topic first: the possibility of Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey in the MCU. This idea has been tossed around by fans, particularly if Marvel plans to introduce X-Men characters at an early stage. It’s been reported online that Marvel may be considering Sink for the role, although these reports lack solid confirmation from reliable sources.
The choice of actor for the role seems fitting for both him/her and the character, and it’s no coincidence that this announcement comes at a time when there has been much speculation online. However, one significant problem arises: How could Jean Grey appear in a Spider-Man film?
It’s possible, given that Marvel often incorporates characters other than Spider-Man in their movies. However, it does seem quite unusual for this particular character to be involved.
Julia Carpenter
It seems that Spider-Man 4 might be ideally suited for him, and moreover, Jake Gyllenhaal could potentially assume a highly adaptable part within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
As a film critic, I’ve had the pleasure of following the Marvel Universe’s intricate tapestry, and one character that has truly captivated me is Julia Carpenter, who has embodied various personas over time. Most recently, she assumed the role of Spider-Woman, a character that blends seamlessly with Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker – a young Spider-Man still grappling with the complexities of his newfound powers and the absence of his friends.
The character’s role has expanded to include Arachne and possibly Madame Web within the series. However, considering the outcome of Sony’s Madame Web film, it’s unlikely she will be portraying that character. Yet, her inclusion in the franchise opens up numerous possibilities for future developments.
Firestar (Angelica Jones)
This character is yet another adaptable figure that Marvel Studios might employ across various scenarios and rosters in the upcoming years.
Angelica Jones, also known as Firestar, possesses a versatile set of abilities that have adapted and grown with various tales, yet they essentially revolve around manipulating heat. By utilizing microwave energy, she is capable of igniting flames and employing them for flight.
As a fan, I’ve always admired Firestar from the comics, particularly her romantic ties with Spider-Man, which could potentially pave the way for her introduction in Spider-Man 4. What makes Firestar an intriguing character is her versatility – she’s not only been romantically involved with a key MCU figure but has also been part of both the X-Men and the Avengers. This dual affiliation offers Marvel Studios a fantastic opportunity to gradually introduce the X-Men into their franchise. In my opinion, Firestar would be an ideal starting point for this transition, seamlessly bridging the gap between these iconic teams.
Carlie Cooper
This wound runs more profound than others on this roster, yet it could offer Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Sink an opportunity to start fresh with many supporters, cleaning their palette so to speak.
Carlie Cooper, one of Peter’s romantic interests, later gains abilities and assumes the role of a character known as Monster. However, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe adaptation, the character doesn’t necessarily need to develop these extraordinary powers, as the original Carlie is already impressive in her own way.
Mary Jane Watson
It’s crucial to consider this as a plausible scenario, taking into account the striking red hair connection. The movie Spider-Man: Homecoming surprised us by unveiling that Zendaya’s character, Michelle, is none other than the MJ (Michelle Jones-Watson) of this franchise. It seems fitting that their relationship should be the ultimate goal for Holland’s Peter Parker, and any other ending to their story might fall flat.
Given that Peter’s relationship with MJ might be minimal in Spider-Man 4 due to her lack of memory about their past, introducing a new love interest and companion could be a logical move. After all, who better than Mary Jane Watson for this role?
In this scenario, the character could be an alternate universe version of Mary Jane, or simply another Mary Jane existing in Peter’s present world (Watson isn’t an unusually rare name). Introducing a “new MJ” might motivate Peter to strive even more vigorously for the woman he cherishes, despite her seeming to have forgotten him.
