The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 1 ending explained: Who is Jaichim?

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 1.

The third season of The Wheel of Time has given us several spine-tingling scenes so far, and the closing moment in episode 1 featuring Jaichim Carridin and the Spider, Moghedien, could potentially be the most memorable.

Moghedien, portrayed by Laia Costa, is a recently introduced character, debuting towards the end of season 2. She’s one of the Forsaken, a group that even Lanfear found terrifying.

We meet the character Jaichim, played by actor Jared Doreck, who is having a tough time because he has been caught in the trickery of Moghedien. So, to clarify, who is Jaichim? He is one of the characters in this narrative.

The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 1 ending explained: What happened to Jaichim?

Towards the conclusion of Season 3, Episode 1, it seems that Moghedien is in the process of turning Jaichim Carridin into a Gray Man.

Grayfen, or Soul-less individuals, serve as assassins under the control of the enigmatic figure known as the Shadow. Originally, these beings were typical humans, but over time they would make a pact with the Dark One, forfeiting their souls in the process.

As a fan, I found it intriguing to witness a shift in Jaichim’s storyline, deviating from the pattern established in Jordan’s books where he obeyed Ishmael. In this new series, however, it seems that Moghedien, or the Spider as we know her, has assumed control over his actions.

In the closing moments of episode 1, Moghedied whispers softly, “Slowly, slowly, emerge from the darkness,” before sketching a symbol on the ground.

As a film enthusiast, I find myself saying: “You’re well aware of the consequences when we breach our hidden rules, aren’t you? It leads to the loss of our very essence – a form of eternal demise. Yet, if you seek it, you transform into something extraordinary. Not light or dark, but magnificent. Are you ready to be magnificent, Jaichim?

In the first-person perspective, I’d say: “Moghedien torments me mercilessly, tightening his grip and chilling my veins. He persists in querying if I aspire for greatness. Desperate and pleading, I implore him to spare my life, declaring that I have no ambition for grandeur.

Approaching the brink of death, he consents at last, and Moghedied uses her powers on him. Initially thought to be lifeless, Jaichim stirs and she informs him, “Now you belong to me. There’s someone I require you to locate.

Who is Jaichim Carridin?

In the series, we’ve only just met Jaichim Carridin – so his journey is yet to come.

In the written works, Jaichim serves as an officer for the Children of the Light and holds the title of an Inquisitor under the Hand of the Light.

Could it be that he, disguised as Bors, was tasked by Ishmael to surveillance over Perrin Aybara, Matrim Cauthon, and Rand al’Thor, as Moghedien might have been the one who gave this command?

Who is Moghedien?

Moghedien is one of the Forsaken, who was released at the end of season 2 before Ishmael’s death.

As a dedicated reader and cinephile, I might rephrase that statement like this: Though many perceive her as the least formidable among the Forsaken in the novels, she possesses an extraordinary prowess in the One Power – a fact that sets her apart from the rest.
