Rise of the Ronin Director is Paying Attention to How the Nintendo Switch 2 Will Change Things

Fumihiko Yasuda, director of “Rise of the Ronin“, is considering expanding the platforms for his games’ release. During an interview with RPG Site, Yasuda mentioned that there are a substantial number of players in Japan who use the Nintendo Switch. As a result, he is closely observing the potential impact of the Nintendo Switch 2 on these aspects.

Speaking about gaming consoles, there’s been a notable group of Nintendo Switch users in Japan for quite some time now. I’m keeping a close eye on how things might shift when Nintendo Switch 2 comes out.

Additionally, he mentioned that the games he’s developed with Koei Tecmo typically draw a large player base on the PlayStation 5. Lately, there’s been a significant increase in Japanese gaming enthusiasts who prefer playing on personal computers too.

As a dedicated game enthusiast, I’ve noticed an impressive surge in the number of PC gamers in Japan over the last few years. While it’s true that there are plenty of PlayStation 5 players like myself, the growth in the PC gaming community has been quite noticeable and exciting.

Initially launched on PlayStation 5 in the year 2024, “Rise of the Ronin” made its debut on PC just recently. Compared to its PS5 counterpart, the PC version boasts several enhancements such as compatibility with ultrawide displays and higher resolutions and frame rates. Nevertheless, our review pointed out that the transition could have been smoother. For a comprehensive look at the PC version of “Rise of the Ronin”, read our latest review.

Despite receiving a moderate response during its PS5 launch, Koei Tecmo announced in June 2024 that sales for “Rise of the Ronin” had outperformed the Nioh franchise. At that time, Yasuda referred to it as the highest-selling title by Koei Tecmo to date.

Prior to the debut of “Rise of the Ronin”, Yasuda acknowledged that Sucker Punch’s “Ghost of Tsushima” served as a source of inspiration for Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo while they were creating their game. As “Rise of the Ronin” was to be the studio’s first open-world title, “Ghost of Tsushima” was one of the key influences during the development process.

Yasuda stated that “Rise of the Ronin” is our initial open-world game, and “Ghost of Tsushima” was one game we looked to for inspiration. He personally admired the depth of research put into a game set in Japan by its developers, and appreciated the acclaim it received, particularly for its combat system. At the same time, he pondered why such a game as “Ghost of Tsushima” couldn’t be released earlier. “Ghost of Tsushima” motivated them to create “Rise of the Ronin”.

As a fervent enthusiast, I’m excited to share that “Rise of the Ronin” is now playable on both PC and PS5 platforms! For those eager to delve into its world, my previous review of its initial release offers valuable insights. For PC gamers specifically, you may want to familiarize yourself with the system requirements needed to enjoy “Rise of the Ronin”.
