In a revelation on social media platform X, director Hideo Kojima of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has hinted that the trailer, freshly released, conceals numerous secrets yet to be uncovered by fans. According to Kojima, these hidden clues revolve around elements such as the SSS highways and the game’s underlying systems.
In his latest post on X, Kojima hints that if you examine the game system closely, there are several subtle hints to be found. For instance, take a closer look at the SSS highways; certain zones feature a roof-like structure. Additionally, notice how some structures resemble convenience stores at night, emitting a bright glow.
When examining the trailer, Kojima subtly hints at something intriguing by mentioning “at night.” This could mean that, unlike the first Death Stranding game, the sequel might incorporate a more detailed day and night cycle. However, until an official confirmation is given, these assumptions should be considered as speculative.
At the recent SXSW 2025 “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” Special Panel, Kojima discussed a new trailer for the game. This extended clip provided numerous insights into both gameplay and plot, and it also disclosed that “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” would be available on PS5 starting June 26th.
The trailer showcased several story parts that didn’t fit within the overall narrative, among them was the introduction of the character Neil, portrayed by Luca Marinella. In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, according to Kojima, Neil will have a role similar to Mads Mikkelsen’s character Cliff in the first Death Stranding. Kojima shared additional details about how he became familiar with Marinella through his past projects and how their collaboration came about due to Marinella also being a fan of the Metal Gear series.
In addition, information about different versions of the upcoming game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, was disclosed. Apart from a standard version, there will be Digital Deluxe and Collector’s editions available as well. These premium editions come with digital and physical items respectively. If you opt for one of these pricier versions, you’ll also receive early access to the game 48 hours before its official launch. During the SXSW 2025 panel, Kojima shared several fascinating insights about “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”. In particular, he discussed the comeback of the character Higgs, portrayed by Troy Baker. Kojima went as far as to call this character’s appearance so extraordinary that players might feel compelled to toss their controllers in astonishment. He has already extended his apologies in advance for this potential reaction.
Kojima stated that Higgs isn’t merely twice or thrice superior; it’s approximately 100 times better than Death Stranding 1. By the end, you might find yourself watching Higgs and exclaiming, “What on earth is this?” You may even toss aside the controller in disbelief, as it’s so unbelievably extraordinary. I apologize in advance for any potential shock.
One key topic in the “Death Stranding” series is the concept of connection, and during a discussion, Hideo Kojima shared insights into why this theme was selected. Essentially, following his departure from Konami, he felt a sense of isolation, as if he had lost everything and found himself alone, which led to the choice of this theme.
Kojima explained that the central theme of Death Stranding is building connections. He shared, “I felt as though I had lost everything when I was left on my own nine years ago.
The sequel to “Death Stranding,” titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” is currently being developed specifically for the PlayStation 5. Given that the original game may have eventually been released on PC as well, it’s possible that this next installment could also find its way onto personal computers in the future.
If you look closely at the game system, there are a number of clues.
For instance, on the SSS highways, certain sections feature a canopy, and at night, these structures emit a vivid light similar to what you’d see from all-night convenience stores.
