Richard Hammond and James May revisit Top Gear studio after 10 years – reflecting on ‘anxieties’

In simpler terms, the more recent season concluded recently as well, wrapping up with a touching finale that brought the broadcasters back to a significant location featured in their initial Top Gear extended episode’s climax.

Currently, Hammond and May are reminiscing about their past adventures as they revisit the old Top Gear set, which is no longer operational. They shared their experiences and memories in a 15-minute video on May’s Planet Gin YouTube channel. You can watch it here:

Initially, Hammond remarked: “It feels quite strange being back here. Previously, my departure was following the completion of our last studio album, and I remember driving away in a bronze Land Rover, thinking to myself, ‘What just happened?’

As they strolled through the areas behind the scenes where the shows were prepared, the pair began contemplating the tension they experienced before hitting record, especially when the crowds started flooding in.

Hammond remarked, “You’d ponder its contents,” meaning if you had an excellent movie that made you proud, or there was a difficult segment in the news that you were anxious about, or a lengthy and intricate connection with many details to recall.

May stated, “I believe we felt anxious initially, but over time, we adapted to it and that’s simply how our lives became.

Hammond remarked later, “We were always under a great deal of tension,” but then questioned, “Amazingly, how did we manage to pull it off for such a long time?” (or more informally, “Surprisingly, how did we keep this up for so long?”)

The popular show, Top Gear, was put on an extended hiatus following an accident involving presenter Freddie Flintoff during filming of a particular episode.
