GBA-Inspired Platformer Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo Announced for PS5, Demo Out Now

The adorable action-platformer titled “Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo” has now been officially revealed for PlayStation 5. Its visual style seems to be heavily influenced by the Game Boy Advance era.

Developed by Pocket Trap and published by PM Studios, this game is a delightful 2D adventure where you play as Pippit, a bat embarking on a mission to redeem his family’s honor after his aunt is taken captive. The press release describes the gameplay: “Equipped with Pippit’s reliable yo-yo as a weapon, you will traverse an expansive cityscape, picking up new skills and battling rival crime lords to reclaim your family’s once dominant influence.

The yoyo appears to be the heart of this game. Mastering fresh techniques not only expands your exploration of the city but also enables you to apply these skills in battle scenarios.

In the game, you’ll gain access to numerous enhancements and skills which will modify the gameplay experience as you battle and navigate levels. The trailer offers a sneak peek into the thrilling action and the formidable crime lords you’ll encounter during gameplay.

If you’d like to try it out, a complimentary version of the game can be found on the PlayStation Store right now. The complete game will launch on PlayStation 5 on May 28, 2025. So, the full release isn’t that far off!

A physical version intended for sale at stores is scheduled to come out later, but we don’t have a specific release date just yet. This version will serve as a limited collector’s item, complete with a cuddly Pippit toy, and pre-orders are currently available in North America.
