Jessica Simpson’s Epic Comeback: First Performance in 15 Years After Heartbreaking Split!

The stage is irresistible to Jessica Simpson.

15 years after taking a break from live performances, the singer of “With You,” who announced her separation from husband Eric Johnson in January, put on an exciting show on March 12 at the Recording Academy’s Austin Chapter Block Party during SXSW in Austin, Texas. She also shared a touching message about her successful comeback on social media.

Last night marked my return to performing after a 15-year hiatus, and I shared this moment on Instagram with videos from the event. It felt incredibly moving to reconnect with the most authentic aspect of myself. I want to express my gratitude for your warm welcome.”

“Last night, I made a comeback on stage after 15 long years, which I documented and posted on Instagram. This emotional homecoming brought me closer to my true self once more, and I am deeply grateful for your acceptance.

At the performance, the 44-year-old introduced four fresh tracks such as “Leave” and “Use My Heart Against Me,” along with her renditions of “Son of a Preacher Man” and “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'”. As reported by Rolling Stone, she hinted that her comeback show was not a one-time event.

She finished off by saying, “I have a lot more to share with you, but my fortunate words get another chance to fly tonight.” She ended with, “I love you all. There’s more to come…

Jessica, who has children Maxwell (age 12), Ace (age 11), and Birdie (age 5) with Eric, accelerated her music return by launching “Leave” on March 7, which is part of her upcoming EP titled “Nashville Canyon: Part 1“. In this song, she expresses a damaged relationship stemming from what seems to be a deceitful act.

What we shared was wonderful/ Now you’ve turned it into something sad,” or “I found joy in what you offered me/ Now the source of your happiness is gone.

After the release of the song, Jessica shared that it was among the final ones she penned for her forthcoming collection, and undeniably one of the hardest to compose.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: “In a recent YouTube vlog, I shared my creative process behind one particular song. Writing the lyrics for ‘Leave’ wasn’t easy; it required delving into some challenging emotional territories. Yet, it was essential for me to confront and express those feelings.

Undeniably, penning down their story felt like a healing journey, given the heartbreaking conclusion to the decade-long union between Jessica and Eric.

In a heart-to-heart with my cherished sister Ashlee Simpson during an interview for The Cut in February, I confided that the most profoundly painful experience of my life also turned out to be the most transformative and insightful therapeutic journey I’ve ever embarked upon.

For a look at all the signs that pointed to Jessica and Eric’s split, keep reading.

Before Jessica Simpson officially separated from her husband of 10 years, Eric Johnson, on January 13, 2025, eagle-eyed social media users noticed his absence from her Instagram posts for quite some time. Although the “With You” singer had posted birthday and anniversary tributes to Eric in the past, she didn’t do so in 2024. Moreover, he was not featured in the back-to-school photos Jessica shared of their children – Maxwell, Drew, Ace Knute, and Birdie Mae – in September.

The last time Eric was seen in one of Jessica’s posts was back in April 2024, when she uploaded pictures from their family’s spring break trip to Cabo. Interestingly, Eric previously had an Instagram account but deactivated it some time ago; Jessica once mentioned that he “isn’t really into Instagram.” In fact, her last post tagging him was in 2022.

Fans had been puzzled by cryptic messages the artist “Irresistible” posted recently, such as hinting at new music in one of them.

She wrote on her November 11 Instagram post: “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I found my unique talent.”
“This return is a personal matter, it’s an apology to myself for enduring what I should not have had to.

Amidst the persistent chatter about Eric and Jessica, Ashlee Simpson, her sibling, addressed the rumors by stating emphatically that they were unfounded. On November 11, when questioned about the gossip by TMZ, she replied succinctly, “No.

The following day, I myself found myself, minus my wedding ring, being photographed in Los Angeles – images that were later acquired by a reputable media outlet.

Just like Jessica, photographs have shown her not wearing her wedding ring. For instance, she was spotted without it during a visit to Los Angeles International Airport in November, as well as on a movie outing in December, as captured in photos and videos obtained by the Daily Mail.

It wasn’t immediately noticed by fans, but it seems that the actress from “The Dukes of Hazzard” discreetly put her California home in Hidden Hills up for sale on January 11th for $17,900,000. This was only a few days before she declared her separation from the athlete.

Jessica and Eric were last spotted together at a public function back in June 2023. They visited the unveiling of Bernie Taupin’s exhibit titled “Reflections” at the Choice Contemporary art gallery situated in Los Angeles.
