Samantha Bond’s Daring Stunt on ‘The Marlow Murder Club’ Leaves Her Bottom Begging for Mercy!

During a Q&A session for The Marlow Murder Club‘s second season, held following the initial episode’s screening to the press, there was much discussion centered around one particular scene – the high-speed pursuit involving a mobility scooter.

In simpler terms, these characters – Judith (played by Samantha Bond), Suzie (portrayed by Jo Martin), and Becks (acted by Cara Horgan) – grab a mobility scooter for a fast-paced pursuit, as they’re chasing after a suspect on a bicycle in a clandestine operation.

The three of them huddled up on a single scooter, Suzie steering while the others hung on beside her, were absolutely resolute and intent on their task. However, the performers found their feelings to be somewhat more intense.

Horan expressed that it was incredibly enjoyable, but Bond responded skeptically, expressing doubt with, “Enjoyable? Enjoyable?!

During some scenes, we had stand-ins for specific parts, but surprisingly, the three of us were often riding on that scooter,” Bond clarified. “We were even connected with a length of rope, and the stunt performer assured us, ‘You’re completely secure.’

After rounding the corner, we all needed to signal simultaneously. In an instant, it seemed like three hands waved in unison. If one went that direction, they could collide with others.

When it hits the speed bump, the ‘Ow’ you hear is absolutely sincere, and I’m unsure if my rear end has fully bounced back.

“So it was sort of fun, but she’s [Horgan’s] much, much younger. Her sense of fun is different.”

Horgan clarified that, even though we’ve blocked off the road to prevent actual accidents, we’re still navigating the genuine streets of Marlow.

She mentioned, “People are moving about and observing us from the houses lining these streets.

Naturally, there’s an added excitement when you take shots outdoors or interact with the public. This heightens the overall experience by pumping up the adrenaline.

In the beginning, the story unfolds as the initial chapter of a two-chapter narrative. For the second season, it is divided into six separate two-part episodes.

The opening acts of the tale comprise the first installment of a two-act piece; for the second season, this act splits into six self-contained two-episode arcs.

I’ve come across an intriguing tale that originates from the creative mind of Robert Thorogood, the brilliant mastermind behind the hit series Death in Paradise. Interestingly enough, this story is a screen adaptation of his own novel titled Death Comes to Marlow.

The title characters find themselves delving into a baffling case of a murder that took place within a grand estate’s secure study, all while receiving an invitation to attend a gathering from a man who is anxious about his upcoming nuptials the following day.

Readers who finished the book might find themselves puzzled by the inclusion of a high-speed pursuit involving a mobility scooter, as it isn’t depicted in the original text. However, during the Q&A session, author Thorogood clarified that this scene was included due to its striking visual appeal.

Thorogood remarked, “I believe I proposed a query: ‘What could be exciting? What would be genuinely entertaining?’ He continued, “Then, I recall suggesting something like, ‘We might try a mobility scooter race.’ And it was one of those suggestions that as soon as it was made, we all thought, ‘This is brilliant!’

Despite the fact that it seems improbable due to lack of funding and resources, Steve, our director, will still need to film it. The actors must perform their roles, regardless. I’m concerned about Sam’s safety, as his risk level is increasing over time. However, we’re all confident that this project will be enjoyable.

He added: “In the intensified realm of murder mysteries, we strike a balance. We handle the gravity of death with due respect, but by featuring unconventional female detectives, we introduce a dash of humor and adventure.

One thing I really appreciate about shows like this is that they offer both humor and wit, along with dramatic elements and intriguing puzzles.

Joining Bond, Martin, and Horgan once again for Season 2 is Natalie Dew, reprising her role as Detective Tanika. Additionally, we welcome Samantha Womack and Hugh Quarshie as our special guests in the new season.
