Nippon Ichi Software announces five new projects for PS5, PS4, and Switch – Curse, Gobble, Kyouran, Renzu, and Shinigami Hime

Nippon Ichi Software has unveiled five upcoming titles, slated for release on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles in Japan by 2026. The dungeon RPG titled “Curse” is set to launch in 2025 along with the side-scrolling action game “Gobble” and horror adventure game “Renzu”. In 2026, players can expect the release of the action RPG “Kyouran” and the action adventure game “Shinigami Hime”.

Get the details below.

■ Project Name: Curse

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch
  • Release Date: 2025
  • Genre: RPG

As a fearless gamer, I find myself immersed in the gripping world of “Curse,” a RPG set in ominous dungeons. My character is an adventurer on a mission to free a town haunted by a malevolent curse. While delving into these labyrinthine depths, I’m constantly at risk of encountering curses that can strike me down due to hostile enemies, cunning traps in chests, or specific locations within the dungeons.

However, instead of being merely a hindrance, these curses hold a unique power: should I manage to return to town and purge them, they can enhance my character’s abilities. The challenge lies in determining how long I can survive with the curse afflicting me before pressing onward. This game is not just about survival; it’s about harnessing the power of darkness to triumph over it.

In this game, the action unfolds using the classic command-based RPG structure, where fights take place in turns and your party is divided into an attacking group (vanguard) and a defensive one (rearguard). At present, there are five distinct character classes that you can choose from: Fighter, Barbarian, Archer, Paladin, and Sorcerer. More classes might be introduced later on.

■ Project Name: Gobble

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Switch
  • Release Date: 2025
  • Genre: Side-Scrolling Action

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Gobble” is my creation – a captivating side-scrolling action game! Born from Nippon Ichi Software’s annual internal competition, the “Nippon Ichi Project Festival,” it was during my second year at this esteemed company where my idea took shape.

In the past, this unique competition has birthed other exceptional titles such as “htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary,” “Yomawari: Night Alone,” and “The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince.” As I now oversee its development, I can’t wait to see what exciting adventures await us all!

In my perspective as an enthusiast, I’d say: I find myself in a world that was supposed to know tranquility following the downfall of the Demon King. But then, during an unexpected monster ambush, I cross paths with a chatty artifact resembling a sickle. This unconventional item and I, a determined young lad on a family-finding mission, join forces. What unfolds is an eccentric, ominous journey filled with twists and turns.

In this game, a major feature is referred to as “predation.” This essentially means that when you defeat an enemy, you can appropriate their skills by using your ‘sickle.’

This game is unique due to its employment of American comic book-inspired scenarios and animated sequences that resemble cartoons. It’s essential for players to notice the graphics, especially during instances such as combat or enemy defeat, as well as when events unfold within the game.

■ Project Name: Kyouran

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Switch
  • Release Date: 2026
  • Genre: Action RPG

Kyouran, a role-playing game in the action genre, is created by the principal team behind the renowned Disgaea series. One notable feature that sets it apart from other action RPGs is its extensive character growth, as well as additional activities not commonly found in this type of game. Features reminiscent of Disgaea include level caps reaching up to 9999 and inflicting damage surpassing 100 million.

The game’s key staff includes:

  • Development Manager: Shunsuke Minowa (Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless, Bar Stella Abyss)
  • Character Designer: Takehito Harada (Disgaea series, Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk)
  • Composer: Tenpei Sato (Disgaea series, Phantom Brave, Rhapsody series)

In this sprawling universe, diverse beasts strive for supremacy. The main character, an experienced mercenary, equips themselves with preferred weapons and abilities to eliminate these creatures. After vanquishing them throughout each level, they face off against a colossal boss at the end.

Beyond shaping characters, the game incorporates several features that echo the style of the Disgaea series, including the option to make friends with monsters and engage them in battles, along with employing monsters as combat tools.

■ Project Name: Renzu

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch
  • Release Date: Summer 2025
  • Genre: Horror Adventure

Renzu is a horror adventure game that portrays “curses as pure fear.”

The main character works as a journalist for a publication focused on the supernatural, investigating and documenting chilling urban myths and whispers. One fateful day, after hearing a tale about a deadly curse, our hero ventures to a place shrouded in fear, where they encounter a truly terrifying occurrence and are afflicted by a sinister curse.

With each second ticking away, the player embarks on a quest to unravel the secrets of a haunting enigma. As they delve deeper into the investigation, the ominous power of the curse intensifies. Can the player evade the relentless grasp of the curse that seems to creep ever nearer with every tick?

As an eager enthusiast, I’ll delve into the enigma of the curse by scouring reader insights and venturing to haunted locales. Here, I’ll capture spirit images that will subtly disclose the historical events that transpired at these eerie spots. Gradually, as the pieces fall into place, I’ll unravel the veil surrounding this ancient curse.

■ Project Name: Shinigami Hime

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Switch
  • Release Date: 2026
  • Genre: Action Adventure

In the lineup, this is the third title inspired by the series, following “The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince” and “The Cruel King and the Great Hero”. It offers a whimsical setting reminiscent of a children’s picture book, appealing to both young and old.

The game’s key staff includes:

  • Character Design: Sayaka Oda (The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince, The Cruel King and the Great Hero)
  • Planning and Scenario: Kento Jobana (Bar Stella Abyss, Process of Elimination)

Similar to the last two games, the main characters consist of both a monster and a human. The game showcases Sayaka Oda’s unique hand-drawn artwork, painting a world that is darker and more bizarre than previous versions. It revolves around young girls who have experienced trauma, whose distorted storybook worlds are enclosed within an eerie library.

To escape from the storybook universe back to reality, the player needs to gather “memories pieces” that are hidden in various parts of the storybook. This is accomplished by utilizing the abilities of a monstrous goat, which can consume and dismantle the storybook world, as well as a girl who has the power to modify the paper-based settings within the book’s universe.
